I bought one a few years ago, they don't really work all that good, even with concrete blocks on it.

I would rent a tractor and disc before I would use my UTV for food plots. Not really designed for that.

Yea I looked into renting. It would cost me just as much as a plow by the time it was all said and done.

Agree with STX. No way I would use that expensive machine as a tractor. It would be a lot cheaper, in the long run, to just hire somebody local to plant for you.

Only option I think you'd have that would work, would be a small disc, but price the cost of a new transmission in your ATV and see what you come up with. A "plow" IMO would be a waste of time and money, the ATV wont have what it takes to pull a plow, I doubt it could pull a single blade middle buster.
I'd do as mentioned and rent a small tractor in the 35hp range and get it done in 2 hours, then use the ATV to drag it.

yea i dont see how its not designed for that. its just towing. it has a 2000lbs tow limit and i don't see a small 2row plow coming close to that especially if i went slow and made multiple passes! i'm not thinkin i'm gonna get big tractor results on the first go... just need something to scratch up the ground enough to get some oats in..

I would have bought a tractor instead of UTV.
We plant a few acres every year. Using a tractor and disk breaking new ground is still tuff till you get the ground more conditioned. Also our few acres is continually grazed to a nub to the point that its not the greatest attractand. I think you would have better results putting a free choice protein feeder wherever you plan on putting said food plot and calling it a day.

Your ATV has a 1 ton towing capacity, that is likely considered a weight on wheels, like a small trailer. A ground engaging implement can exert much more than 2000# of resistance.
Best bet, call the ATV manufacturer and ask what they recommend, then run with that. Implement company's that market to ATV'ers are going to say "yeah no problem", they are in sales.
Disc would still be the best way to go if your dead set on it.
I agree with Redchevy on tractor vs ATV. You can do a heck of allot more with a small 35 hp tractor with an FEL, than you can an ATV, but if your not a landowner, that would make little difference.

If the ground has never been plowed it might be best to at least have somebody come chisel it for you. I'd find out what their minimum is for acreage and see what they charge. If you bought one of the small 3' discs it would probably be enough to scratch something in after a decent chisel job. You wouldn't have to pay somebody to do the whole job and you'd be in better shape going forward.

I think you want disc harrow of some type I used a groundhog max with my utv to put in ~.5 acre plot and it worked fine. It did seem hard on the machine, but few years ago and no issues (since have more plots and have tractor). The groundhog max probably tears up ground faster than a pull behind disc harrow since using weight of atv but is pretty small and little painful to work with. If it was a bigger plot there are several pull behind disc-harrows designed specially for atvs. I have not used these, but have friends that have in NE and they work fine. Might need to add some weight, particularly with new ground. I have 6.5 ft HD disc harrow with some added weight on my tractor and it still takes many passes with new ground.

thats what I thought too. First and only time my red light came on on the wheeler. Your not towing anything your moving earth and that takes something like a tractor. Good luck. Lets us know how it went.

What about one of those pull behind roto tillers? First mow the grass real short, weed killer then the roto tiller at a little depth at a time. Just thinking.

I like the roto tillers. They are just pricey. May pick one up next year and just hold off on fall food plots and get in a spring pot.

That ground is gonna be hard. You will need to bust it up first with a proper plow. Go to the nearest feed store and ask around. Someone will drive their tractor over there and bust it up for you. Then you can rototill it.

I am by no means a farmer so chances are I was doing something wrong, but I have a 60 hp utility tractor and was shocked at how ineffective a disc was on virgin ground. This was with about 800lbs in old farm crap on top of it. You might want to pay a local to bust it for you the first go round.

I would rent a tractor and disc before I would use my UTV for food plots. Not really designed for that. Simply comparing the appearance of a tractor and ATV should be enough to make it obvious they are designed for different applications.

A plow or middle buster is often required to get unworked soil to the point where it can be disked. And any attempt to disk such areas with an ATV disk equates to peeing on a house fire.

If your location has somewhat sandy or very loose soil you can get away using the atv, plow set like your talking about. But new undesturbed soil can be a pain break open, like previous posting said get a local break it up first then your good.
I got cows on our place, thinking about just putting a small plot up with hog panels up try something different one year and see what gives. Deer will always fine it.
