When my dog is running to the car every time he sees my camo hat on my head.
Almost forgot, when Texas Parks and Wildlife sends the reminder saying i can get my tags printed for the Liftime Hunting and fishing license on Aug 15.

When corn husks are flying miles around during the harvest.
When academy is already out of almost everything.
When you drive around town and can't keep your eyes on the road watching the newly harvested fields and abundance of dove.
When your focus has changed to watching primarily the sky for movement.
When you get a call from old friends asking what your plans are on the opener.
When football starts and all is well once again.
When you start seeing the strangest dove attractor gadgets.

When you do the imaginary shotgun pose and follow the incoming bird and pull the imaginary trigger, and you drop every bird with one imaginary shot. You know you've done it

When I walk into the local gunshop with an order for 26 cases of shotgun shells...and the guy checking out the pistols says "I want to hunt where you're hunting."

This year I have not gotten fired up. Not cuz I'm old, well maybe a little, but mainly cuz my Brittany is still jacked up... full story here. She is still knuckling real bad on one of her back feet. I'll take her out opening morning with a boot on but her days of working quail are over.

When all of the small town hotels are booked I pass right by a dove lease on the way to my little private pasture an ol guy has let me hunt on for the past 10 or so years. Like just having me and a person or 2 I invite. 20 guns going off at the same Bird, I'll pass thank you.

Picked up the SuperCombo today. Lady at Gander Mountain actually argued with me, trying to say that TPW would not let them sell licenses yet. I finally convinced her to log into the computer & run my DL through...she had a pretty stupid look on her face for a few seconds, the apologized. Guess that make me the first 2016 sold at that store.
