Found .22 and .22WMR CCI shot shells on Cabela's website tonight. Didn't say "out of stock". Hadn't been able to find any in a while. Very handy while filling feeders in snake country.

As luck would have it. Everyvtime I am at Bass Pro or Academy or where ever, they are out of .22 shot shells. Now regular .22lr I have always been at the right place at the right time.

At the Walmart by me the help avoids the gun/ammo counter like the plague. They might cruise by, but if they see a customer there, they almost run. I can't figure out where they keep the stuff.

As luck would have it, I got my order in from Cabelas, no problem. Then at Bass Pro right down the road they had the CCI .22 shot shell earlier today for $8.99. They are always out when I go there

my walmart in the colony has a ton of the cci 22lr shotshell Those things don't have enough power to even put a whelp on a snake, much less kill one. You should look for the kind that has metal crimped ends.

I have never been impressed by the .22 shotshells. I have never seen a snake killed with one.

I can promise you-the ones I've shot will kill any rattlesnake or grackle. If you don't think they're much more that a air pop gun; I would suggest pulling off your sock and shooting yourself in the foot. I'll see you in the hospital.

I wouldn't, they're so beautiful-especially the tens of thousands of them in the McDonald's parking lot, eating and crapping all over the place. I love it when I see how sweet they look eating pecans.

Grackles are nasty birds, and they carry and spread a lot of disease. They are also parasitic nesters- they kick the eggs out of a bird nest and lay their own, and the other bird species literally raise them as their own. They also do a lot of crop damage. Not to mention, they gather in large numbers and squat all over your car... but that could be said of any bird...

A buddy of mine brought an old .22 revolver loaded with some when we were out getting frogs, to use on snakes. I use a .25 pellet rifle instead of a gig- i use it for pretty much all my small game and depredation/pest hunting. Shooting almost straight down at one, he emptied his pistol on it's head and that snake swam off. By comparison, when I pop em with my pellet rifle they are finished with just one shot in the head/neck. I am sure they would do a number on your foot right at the muzzle, but I don't have any faith in them to work. I feel the main issue is the rifked bore, the second problem is the tiny quantity of shot.

The plastic ended ones are hard to find, the crimped end metal ones don't exist in retail stores as far as I can tell.
Pass the gravy.

.22 shotshells are plenty of medicine for any snake. That's all I have ever used and have NEVER had one crawl away.

You should look for the kind that has metal crimped ends. Ive shot and easily killed snakes and varmits with the plastic capped 22lr shot shells as far back as 20-25 years ago. You are SEVERELY limited in range of effective use, but they work.

Took 4 shots but killed a 4ft rattler at 25 feet. Have killed lots with one shot from 10 feet and in it is deadly. The crimped ones are IMO better than the plastic cup but not much difference in reality. The most effective handgun snake loads I ever used were Remington 45ACP loaded with #12 shot, very dense pattern at close range but haven't seen them in years
lf the saying "Liar, Liar your pants on fire" were true Mainstream news might be fun to watch

I have never seen them kill anything. I can see why they might be hard to come by. For the lack of killing power and the lack of range, they are pretty high priced. I have killed numerous snakes with an air rifle, one shot is all it takes and at ten feet or less it's an easy shot. The .45 shotshells make a little more sense.

I'll buy that.
We need more CCI .38 special shot rounds. They used to be common.
Pass the gravy.

I have never seen them kill anything. Maybe it's a marksmanship issue then? .22LR shot shells have been killing the largest American snakes since they've been in production. I have killed many and have never seen a snake shake any off. Ever. Period. If you hit what you're aiming at (should be the head), then that's a dead snake. End of story.

I knew I shouldn't have came back to the thread. Never had a problem killing them with even just a pellet rifle, as long as I have understood where to place the shot. Even with just a little .177 pump up. I don't know how you get marksmanship problems out of that statement, but I digress. I never meant any of it to be a jab at anybody. I am just telling the truth like it is. The .22 shotshells are ineffective, and honestly, inhumane. They shouldn't be used to dispatch anything. At the given range on a given animal that they MIGHT be effective on, you might as well club the critter in the head with a heavy stick or chop it off with a hoe. At least that's a quick, clean kill. I will never understand why anybody would insist on using them.
