I am still kind of new here but wanted to post my project this fall. I built this with a set of plans I bought from the following Mr. Leonard at Kara Enterprises. This was a fun project which I enjoyed building. I am by no means a craftsman so anyone with some basic woodworking tools should be able to build this. To begin with it is 14' long and 48" wide. The cockpit is 7' long and 28" wide (big enough for my cannonball @##). I had the top and bottom fiberglassed with a double thick cloth on the bottom. Cockpit This boat is designed to be either paddled or poled. Too slow for me! I had been working on a home built mud motor but had my design go up with a shelled bearing. I had altered the plans for the two battery boxes and transom during construction. The bow battey runs the white light, nav lights, spot light, bilge pump and accessory plug. The stern battery runs the 30# thrust trolling motor. Port Side Starboard Side [image] Bow Stern and Transom I had initially planned on a second season floating of this vessel however, fiberglassing issues caused it to be the final weekend. Many laughed at the project but it floated quite well. It is by know means a big water boat. I took 2 dozen deeks, gun, layout blind, and blind bag without an issue. Cooper the night before 24Jan2009 No blood was spilled so until teal season, it is a crappie hunter.

I like your boat, looks very stable. Here is the one I built last year to hunt and fish out of, its a pirogue and floats in very little water but probably not as stable as the one you built.

TPWD was confused about what to call this boat so in their infinite wisdom called it a pirouge. Yours looks pretty neat. Did you use a set of plans? I think I have seen a link for plans on the Duck Commanders page.

Those are both great looking rigs. I've looked at plans for both, myself, but the fiberglassing always puts me off building one. How difficult is it? I'm afraid I'll get some boat all built and then F the fiberglass up sixteen ways to Sunday.

I was able to trade out for my glass job--one tradesman to the other. However, I would do it myself next time. As far as screwing it up a pint of paint will cover a whole bunch.

Ah yes, the old Pirogue boat. I just printed the plans. We built these back in the 80's and used them in the bayous of north Louisiana. If you camo these up real good and camo your self real good you could drift the bayous, we did it where we could drift from one highway bridge to another, and literally shoot ducks point blank. As long as we didn't move we could literally drift in to a flock of ducks and slaughter them. The only thing we did different from the plans from LSU is we added 1" x 2" slats to the bottom of the floor the full length of the boat about an inch apart. That added some strength to the floor and kept you dry if for some reason it took on a little water. If you do the fiberglass right it won't leak at all.

I just wonder if you can get marine plywood in 14 foot sheets? My cousin used to build ours; the wood structure, and then we would do the fiberglass work and paint. He would always use two 8 foot sheets scabbed together and then trim 2 foot off of it, layout the boat and cut it out. We would just glass over where the joint was. These are really neat boats, all you need after you get it built is a kayak paddle and your good to go.
