hey guys, so I want to add a layer of bricks on each side of our sidewalk leading up to our home. We really like the look of them. I've removed a brick sidewalk, but never installed anything like this before. I have the time, what kinda difficulty are we talking about? I do have 2 sprinkers on each side at the start of the sidewalk that I assume I can dig up and cut the pipe about 6" and move them over to make room for the brick? What kinda quotes would I be looking at if I just hired someone? I probably have about 50-60 bricks already, I guess leftovers from when the first owner did the flowerbed edge. Thanks a lot! There is a guy doing this in my hood, along the sidewalks and driveways, he charges around $800 if you provide the bricks

Actually setting the brick is the easy part. The effort and energy should and will be spent on preparing the subsurface. The subsurface is the key to having a good looking and long lasting paver extension to your sidewalk. There are a couple of different ways to do it. You can use concrete base and mortar the bricks in or you can use a gravel and sand base and install a border to hold them in place. With either method, making sure that the subsurface is level and sound is very important. Otherwise, the bricks will crack and the walk will start looking pretty rough. As far as the manual labor involved, if you have the time and some skill, you should be able to do it yourself. Read up on some of the methods and watch a few videos. Worst case scenario, you will get halfway done and decide that you should have hired someone

Thank you both. I figure $800 is probably for a lot more than just this sidewalk I have pictured. I would hope if I had to pay someone and I supply brick that it wouldn't be that much. I'll see if I can find some vids on creating the base. Appreciate the advice!

I like the looks of that. Really dresses up the walk
