With a suppressor carbon will build up on the muzzle and possibly affect the crown. Do those of you who use suppressors clean the muzzle area of your rifles? If not, why not?

A heavy dose of MPro-7 carbon remover on the crown soaking for 5 minutes. Then I use a piece of hardwood with a good 90 degree edge to scrape away the bulk of it. After that I reapply the MPro-7, let it soak, and use a stainless wire brush to get the rest off.
Carbon builds up with suppressor or brake. I clean the crown very often.

I don't bother - the bearing surface of the crown doesn't get any buildup on it, it's only on the outside periphery so cleaning that off is cosmetic ADD. Ask yourself if you ever see accuracy degrade because of a dirty (not damaged) crown. I'd be hard pressed to find a time that the answer was yes.
That being said - keeping things clean is just good preventative maintenance all around and cleaning the carbon off the crown, especially if using a can isn't going to do you any harm either. But it's unnecessary.

The 7mm-08 lost consistency. It has only been fired suppressed. The first thing I am going to do is clean the crown and see what happens. After that, you will have your answer.

The crown is very important to accuracy. I do not see a mechanism where you could count on an even build-up of crud, it tends to clump up here and there.
So my guess is that keeping the crown free of carbon build-up will lead to more consistent accuracy.
Kind regards, charlesb

The buildup follows the rifling grooves of the barrel, it piles up at the spot where the groove meets the crown. At one point you can easily count the grooves by the number of spots on the muzzle. I think it is bound to have some affect on accuracy, even though it may be minute.

By the time I clean mine there may be 1/16" thick layer of carbon built on the entire crown.
