So besides the wood duck, all the really pretty ducks are divers.

Yeah IMO pintails are the best looking and most special when you get one. Even guys like JJ only bag a handful a year. After that I think Cans are pretty cool as are woodducks.
I'd love a fully plummed BWT or spoonie drake to put on the wall.
Dear Lord please bullwhip me for saying this but I agree, Marcstar is in the lead. Please nobody use this as a quote!!!

From a biology perspective canvasbacks and buffledhead are both classified as diving ducks in the tribe Aythini, all puddle ducks are in the tribe Anatini, and the wood duck is not in either of these tribes but is in the "perching duck" tribe known as Cairinini, so the wood duck is not a puddler its a percher, feel free to hate me for bringing science into this

Come out here to the panhandle for pintails. On several occasions this year all I could do is sit and watch as flock after flock of pintails decoyed. I know they're not doing well, but they must concentrate en masse out here. With that said, they are still among the most beautiful of ducks and this year was my first year to get drakes. Tops on my list, though not found around here, are the harlequin duck and long-tailed duck.

That's cause you never shot one.
But seriously I htink they are cool looking ducks and the fact that they are somewhat rare makes them special. Not like the ringnecks that everyone shoots.
From what some of the guys on this site talk about mallards it makes me think they are kind of overrated. Mallards are nice don't get me wrong but they are also the most common...although not in my area. For me or anyone south of me...shooting a mallard is a big deal but of the remaining ducks on my mount wish list a mallard isnt in the top 5. I'd rather have a spoonie drake mounted over a mallard drake...and that's no joke. How many awesome spoonie drakes do you get a year...for me zero. Garrett got a couple but one was missing a head by the time it made it back to us.
Dear Lord please bullwhip me for saying this but I agree, Marcstar is in the lead. Please nobody use this as a quote!!!

My wish list isn't made up of ducks that everyone else thinks are cool. The ducks on my list are birds that I think are nice looking and cool. I have a woody and mallard at the taxi right now. Why? Because I think they are beautiful birds and I want one on the wall. I also have a pintail at the taxi. Why? Because it was the first bird my dog ever retrieved while hunting. I would take a fully plumed spoonie over a cinnamon teal or canvasback. I know cinnamons and canvasbacks are rare but I don't care how rare it is; if it's ugly I don't want it hanging on my wall. That's just me though.

I really think all the ducks are pretty in there own way and yeah if someone likes one over the other and wants it on his wall...it's his wall and his opinion that matters. I love it when I see the more common and less high profile ducks like GWT. To me a GWT drake is one of the coolest looking ducks. Hell even ringers are neat looking...I love the bills on them.
A coot would be quite the conversation starter.

I have a woody, cinnamon, and bufflehead on the wall(well the woody is on a shelf, and the buffie is hanging from the cieling). I have a widg and a mallard at the taxi right now. A pintail is the highest on my list. I have shot plenty of them, but I want one with a real trophy sprig so that might be a while. Unless I get that trophy a greenwing is probably next, and I would like to go to the coast and get a full plummed bluewing too. Eventually I would like to have at least one of all the more common species including divers, and hopefully some of the more exotic ones(to us in TX) like harlequins and eiders. I plan on getting a mount done each year till that happens. I missed last year though, so that's why I did 2 this year. I'm also trying to take them all from different lakes or properties.
