Take a stringer, you will need a mess of them to make a good deer.

Sad, but true. I live in the area, and the deer in Williamson County are about the size of a big dog.

Thats not true. The last time I was out in Williamson county I almost killed the biggest deer of my life.

They always look big when you "almost" kill 'em.
Seriously, I've seen deer in just about every area of the county and it's rare to see a buck over 140-150# live weight. Low fence deer in this county are not exactly bragging size.

some of the biggest deer around are in williamson county, unfortunately they all seem to be in the neighborhoods around my house. twice a week there is a dead buck in the road. they are like rats here, but funny as it sounds, they get much smaller when you get away from the bountiful food that the neighborhoods provide for them.

also, be careful around liberty hill as it is under major development of new housing tracts. it is a nice area no doubt, but i would hate to see you put money down on a lease only to have the land adjacent be divided for a new subdivision right before the season starts. it has happened to many a friend of mine down here.

Stuff my dad said in the deer blind

"I can dive deeper and come up drier"
"did you do that?"

there was a guy a while back that posted some pic's from his place in williamson county and they were some dang good bucks. but some supplements and game management will probably produce some good deer if the genetics are there.

The deer around here for the most part are pretty "Skrawny looking". Very thin (most around 100#), but some nice sized bucks can be found (probably 130" is a dang good buck). Some areas around Lake Georgetown have some really decent sized bucks.
As mentioned above, a lot of area around Liberty Hill is being sold for real estate. You could get lucky and hunt an area that has been in the real estate game the past few years and not been hunted in a while, so could be a plus.
Be careful and watch for thieves..
Alot of meth heads/ meth cooks around liberty hill/ bertam area.

bertram has a bunch of those meth monkey's. maybe that's why the deer don't hold any weight.

I live and hunt in Liberty Hill. Just like any area in Central Texas, the deer do tend to be smaller than average, but there are often exceptions to the average. I would love to hear more specifically where you are hunting as I am very familiar with the area.

I live in Georgetown, and I can say that if you are looking for a South Texas monster, Williamson County will be not be that. If you are looking to see a lot of deer, and some with decent headgear, you'll probably enjoy yourself.

+1 on that. Just go and look what they harvest around Granger Lake. I hunted around Seward Junction 183 & 29 decent deer with a monster on occasion. Or even closer to Round Rock check out the deer on the Robinson Ranch.
