What different calibers have you used over the years to take game. Be as specific as you'd like to be, caliber, game animal, distance, bullet weight, performance, placement.

All of the above or just caliber. I think it could make a good read and be interesting to see what we've all taken game with. Shotguns included as well as pistols, if you want to include bows, that's great too.

I'll be back later and put mine in, if no responces by then, I'll delete this and put it out of it's misery.

Most of the game was in Asia and we got to hunt free for a year or so. No high fences, all free ranging game. HuntTx, sorry I couldn't resist. This question has been asked a gillion times so I thought I'd add a little color to it.

Thanks for answering again, guess I need to keep my butt outta the "for sale" section and pay attention.

Cool hand, that was a unique answer and thank-you for your service, Lord knows you probably got none back then.

CH I was hoping you'd answer thanks, I knew you'd taken alot with alot of different rifles from reading your posts and wanted to see your list.

MT , I hate jealousy but you're tempting me, an African safari is one of the things I really hope the good Lord can provide for me in Heaven 'cause I don't think I'll ever get to go on one here.

thanks to the rest of you also, good reading for me. My list is nothing fancy.

In Germany they had these huge Red Stag deer. Anytime you saw them down range you were supposed to report it and then the Germans would shut down the range for a few hours. It was an unwritten rule that you NEVER EVER saw a Red Stag, no matter what. No one wants to spend 4 hours sitting in the belly of the tank waiting for the locals to clear the range.

We were on the tank range one night doing machine gun fire with thermal vision. As the gunner I had an M240 7.62 machine gun mounted coax to the main gun. The tower told us the range was hot and personnel targets were up. My tank Commander and I searched and searched and couldn't find any targets. There had been two Red Stags out there when we pulled up to the line, but we ignored them as usual. Finally the TC put me on them and said we had found the targets. I said, "Hey, your the boss."

I flipped over to coax, got on target, hit the thumb buttons for the laser range finder, and the reading was over 900 meters. The computer found t6he ballistic solution for that range andx the gun jumped up what seemed like 2 feet. I opened with a 20 round burst, and watched the tracers find there way home. I don't know how many of those rounds hit the stag I was aiming at but it was enough.

So to make a long story short, I like to tell people that I took a Red Stag in Europe with a .308 at almost 1000 yards!

Well now you've made me feel bad about myself. I'll join in and contribute. Once again, I'm a simple man with the very basics on hand!! After I "rotated" back to the states and while I was traveling and saw a vast array of weapons I settled down to mostly shotgunning and clays for about 10 years. After winning a small title in that endeavor I really got into the long gun. I sold my first collection of guns and now I've got only a few!!

My first was:
Model 70, 270 Win. (I won the rifle in a skeet shoot)
Model 742, 30.06 auto ( my most faithful rifle)
Model 94, 30.30 Win (1964)
Model 17, .22 hex barrel Marlin pump (Granddaddy's rifle)
Model ? .22 manlicker stock Mossberg w/scope 4pwr
Model ? .223, Savage Varmit w/3x24 scope (my truck gun)
Model ? 270, Savage w/black composit stock w/3x12 leopold (fired it this year for the first time in 5 years)

Great story. I still hear that 105 torching off from time to time and remember the gooks in the wire at Phnom Phen. Nightmare!!! How can we ever be drawn back to those places through memories? Sorry I'm off topic!!
