You got any preferences or styles you like? Price range? How about your hunting methods, and terrain you hunt?

I like using my AR in 5.56 for all those and also my .243 (various rifle models). On the AR I prefer the Trijicon acog and the .243 a scope with a little more zoom. Good luck

Ar shooting a 69gr matchking all day with a solid 1-4 with ranging ability. Deadly combo.

Remington model 700 SPS 22-250 varmint. Harris bipod and Burris Black Diamond 8-32 x 50. You can buy these in 223, 204 ruger, and 22-250 at Dicks fairly inexpensive if you catch them on sale. Generally around $500 on sale. They come with a 4-12x40 scope and hard case. Great setup without breaking the wallet.

For varmints that size, I use my 220 mostly, but the 223 with 40 gr Nosler BT's. Is about as good. I don't have a 22-250, but it would be a good choice. In any of those calibers, that tiny Nosler bullet is a good choice.

Dpms 243 using 87 grain vmax over 36 grains of varget. I bought a DPMS LR-243 for coyotes and hogs, and believe to be the almost-perfect pest rifle. I admit that a tricked out AR is ugly as a mud fence, but there's no denying the suitability of accurate, sustained firepower for sorting out a sounder of pigs or hosing down a running coyote. The gun may be an ugly duckling at first glance, but if you keep an open mind, you can see a bit of a swan there too.

Do you ever want to keep the furs? If so go with something smaller like a .223 or .22-250. If you don't care about blowing big holes in them then a .243 or bigger will give you better long range ballistics and put them down more quickly.

Dpms 243 using 87 grain vmax over 36 grains of varget. Man, I love that 87 grain VMAX. I use it in my 6x45mm loads out of a 20" barrel and have that load clocked at 2875fps. It just flat out works to put them down, and keep them down. And surprisingly enough it doesnt splatter them, it just carries about 300lbs more thump downrange than typical 5.56 loads. Id love to build a LR-308 in a DPMS pattern thats chambered in 243 using this bullet.

Some shooters might want to add an aftermarket trigger, but mine is pretty decent as-is. If DPMS would add the 7mm-08 to its factory line, I might have to buy one of those too.

Understood, but Im a DIY'er. Its just the way that I am wired I guess. Ive got a couple of black rifles already and I built/assembled all of them myself. Hell, I even milled out the receivers and FCG pockets on a couple of them. Make no mistake about it, it's not more cost efficient this way. It's just my preferred method. That said....in my experience of shooting predators since 99, i'd have to say that anything weighing 50 grains or more (non-FMJ), and traveling 2800fps or more is going to put them down. Cats and Dogs are a pretty thin skinned animal. my suggestion would be to go with whichever rifle you are most comfortable slinging and walking with. I noticed nobody mentioning scatter gun and shells as a preference though. My absolute favorite is #4 Federal Premium or Winchester Supreme 3" magnum buckshot, with a Carlson Dead Coyote choke. Getting them into SG range is awesome, and brings a whole different kind of challenge to pred hunting.

Find a good 22-250 and you will be in good shape. My favorite is a Remington Classic 220 Swift. Flat love this gun. It's whacked about everything from prairie dogs to big hogs. Never shot a deer with it though.

Revoman, what bullet are you shooting in your Swift? I need a bullet I can trust on the big pigs.

Hornady 55 V Max, wouldn't call it a hog bullet nor the Swift a hog rifle . Just what I had at the time I got into the herd. It has laid down 5-6 hogs. Put that bullet where it belongs and it's lights out.
