.223, cheap to shoot(read: plink), accurate, wide varity of bullets available. get one in an ar-15 16 in. bull barrel platform, and you have a home defence weapon as well.

I'd say the best, is the one You have in Your hands. But if You want to spend some $$$ (which I understand) You CAN'T go wrong w/ the .22/250 or 25.06 (I've used both)

I like my .243.. Smaller bullets for lighter animals.. Bigger ones for larger predators.

I use .22 hornet for my night rifle under a spot light it does a good job .it's very good vamint round out to about 200yards with a low muzzle blast. the cost of ammo is high "in factory ammo"there is no best varmint gun except the one in your hand.it really depends on the type of varmint hunting your doing and how windy it is that day and how far out you want to be.I've never been able to use just one. I want the best suited for each hunt and varmint.

You can never go wrong with a Remington 700 varmit series For a little cheaper package deal check with you local dealer on a Howa made by the same folks that make Weatherbys.

Model 700 Remington. They have many different one to chose from. They make one to fit any budget.

If I could only afford one varmint gun, the .243 does the most small to large. But, The 22-250 is hard to beat for small and large&long range have too many good ones to list. Again, if you only have one, it would be hard to argue against 243. Most of us are blessed to live in this country where we can own and afford extra rifles (at least for now).

very easy answer......6mm. A little fast that the 243 but more accurate. Works good on deer with factory load....need hand load for varmint hunting. My Remington 700 bdl varmint will nearly shoot the same hole with factory ammo.
