I like your pics. I've never seen Canyon with that much water. Amazing. Did the bridge in Gruene get swamped?

I thought the dam spillway would keep a lake from getting above a certain level. (?)

I thought the dam spillway would keep a lake from getting above a certain level. (?) The water looks like it is 3 or 4 feet below the spillway. I doubt if the level will get much higher unless we get a good rain. They are releasing quite a bit of water.

Ive bowfished it a couple times like that. we just backed in till it was deep enough in the parking lot, it helps to have a shallow running boat.

We have a place about a mile down from the dam and it is running higher and faster that we have seen it in the nine years we have had the place. The good news is that all of this fast moving water will clean out the river. Over the last 4-5 years a lot of debris has been stacking up in places.

Many may not believe this but me and my father drove across the top of the dam in I believe it was 1963. They had an equipment auction after they finished the dam. We got turned around somewhere or another and ended up driving across the top of it. Back then none of the old timers thought it would fill up. They said there were too many caves and such to siphon of the water. Looks like they were wrong.

I went up there in the early 60's just before the dam was complete and I too thought that something that big could never fill up. Thats a lot of water.

It has more than filled up, it went over the spillway in 2002 (I believe that was the year). It cut a helluva a canyon below the spillway when it went over.

I thought it was in 1998 or 2000 it went over. There is a little water going down the canyon now but appears to be either run off or a spring .

1998 was the big flood on the San Marcos river. I remember it well as San Marcos is my hometown. The water got high enough to flood Straham Coliseum (Texas State) and completely wrecked havoc on the small towns of Martindale, Staples and Fentress downstream of San Marcos. I think it rained something like 20" in a 24 hour period in late October in San Marcos to cause that flood. We missed school for almost a week as a result.
Not sure if there was a flood in the area in 2000, but Canyon Lake went over the spillway in 2002. you can check it out on wikipedia here:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canyon_Lake_Gorge That 1998 flood sure was a Disaster. Went to Wurstfest that year and met my gal there. Got married in 1999. Another Disaster.
