Looking for some guidance...

I have been using a winch up feeder for years with lots of luck. I really like the winch up feeders because I am not a big fan of climbing any latter, especially with a 50# sack of feed on my shoulder!!! The problem I am running into now...I have a pig or two that have trained themselves (I have plenty of picture evidence) to work one leg out at a time until they can run one of the legs completely backwards and get the barrel on the ground. My feeder (and brand new timer, battery, and Inhognito light) is demolished and I have to buy something new now.

I would like to just eliminate the problem but I haven't been successful and with my living situation, I can't devote enough time to kill the little bastards!!!

I am thinking about going with an All Seasons stand and fill 600# feeder and pounding t-posts at all four corners. Do y'all think I will be ok doing that with a pig infestation (like the rest of the state)?

What I see as pros:
1.) Low center of gravity
2.) Easier to fill
3.) 600# capacity. Works great for me since I can't get to the ranch as frequently as I would like
4.) Cost...$549 with timer and solar panel
5.) The cage around the timer looks very stout and like it would keep the coons off of it

My concerns:
1.) Pigs will either get it loose and knock it over and demolish it, or run it down the hill and demolish it
2.)........I can't think of any other concerns

What do y'all think? Has anyone had luck with them when there are a lot of pigs present?

Get a stand and fill on skids and eliminate the single legs altogether.
I'm pretty sure All Seasons makes a model like that, and I know HB does.

I have the one picked out that I am going to buy, I am just curious how they stand up to pigs mainly.

We have an All season stand & fill 600# feeder. We have plenty of hogs . I put 1 t pole on 1 corner & have not had 1 problem with the pigs moving it. Coons can't mess with it either. It is a great feeder.

That's a great deal. May have just earned another customer, especially since I have pigs too.

I have 8 of the 600LB stand and fill. I replaced all of mine about 2 years ago with them. To me not a better option and when I bought mine I paid 4K for mine. 500 a piece but I got a discount for buying over 3 at a time.

Enjoy them, coon proof and hog proof......Only thing that gets into them is squirrels. I take care of them with Duke Dog Proof traps at each feeder. Strap a little chain to them at one of the corners of the trap and done!

You can always run some light chain between the legs to stop them from being pulled out. Can't help you with hogs, I have never had to deal with them, knock on wood.

I'm in the same boat except my winch up has stood up to the cows and pigs rubbing on it. They haven't torn it up or knocked it down yet. However I'm going to get a stand and fill feeder. Love the design of the Diamond feeders but some of the guys on our place have the All Seasons and they seem to function well.

How do they hold up to cows without putting up feed pens?

I am looking at getting one too but am just not sure if the cows we demolish it or not with just putting a t post at each corner.

I would love to have one, but my concern is that I seem to shoot a lot of deer through the tripod legs of my feeders. I would hate to buy a feeder that would result in fewer shot opportunities.

Any thoughts on this from the folk who have used this type of feeder? Is it a non-issue?

I have the Stand and Fill. A ton of hogs at my place, and some big ones to boot. No problems at all with them pushing it around or over.

What about putting each leg of the winch up in the ground 1 foot? Would'nt that solve the hog problem..

we drive T-posts at each leg and wire them to the feeder legs. Havent had a knocked over yet. They are in feeder pens so the cows don't normally get to them.

I have never had a stand and fill because I was thinking that it wouldn't throw the corn as far. Why have deer hunters been putting feeders higher all these years?

I'm one of those hunters that was hunting the higher feeders for 30 plus years.
I started using stand a fill feeders last year and my only regret is I didn't start sooner.

They chunk corn plenty far. With a 12V control unit they will throw a very large circle.

As to your second question, it my guess is it has to do with cost. A 55 gal drum and three legs costs alot less than a fabricated base and full heavy-duty cage.

It really seems like just in the past few years they've become popular. I personally don't see any reason at all for my big [censored] to be up on a ladder or a bed rail of the pickup with 50 lbs of corn. When anchored properly the ground fills will be WAY more stable than a regular feeder, even when they're empty.

I like the shorter feeders. But I have heard a few things against them like: (most have already been mentioned).
They may block a shot as they are low to the ground.
They may get hit by a miss or a pass-through shot.
Won't throw corn as far
Bucks may hang and antler in the short cage and be injured or broken.
Hogs and cows
Cost $$

We have four of them, and so far only cost has been an issue.

I would like to have a few on the ranch but the cost is what's stopping me,,I'm sure a lot of work goes into them but I can build my own feeder with timer, solar and varmint for around $160..Hard to dump $450-$550 on a S and F,,but I would sure like to have a few.

Have several ASF Stand and Fill. 600# and 1000#. Wish I had done it sooner. Great feeders no more coons and wind blowing corn out. Feeding more corn a day and feed cost have dropped about 40% due to not wasting it. NO MORE LADDERS FOR MY OLD [censored] TO DEAL WITH. Or cables and winches. No exposed wires
