Hey guys, I know I havent been active on the forum but do read about what you all have to say about the Xsight and your concerns. I know you guys dont see it but a lot of your feedback is ending up with the right people who are working diligently on addressing these issues.
I need you help with one more thing.
I am pushing ATN to carry an add-on IR which further improves the Xsight performance. The IR that comes standard with Xsight is a decent IR but we all know there are better alternatives available. My question to you all is, how much would you really pay for a good IR that allows you to see 200-250 yards?
I know the best answer and preference would be nothing OR why don't you fix the dimming issue, but for the sake of discussion lets just stick to the topic please.
Would you pay $400 for a super powerful IR? Would you pay $200 for a good performing IR?

Putting a TICO thermal clip-on in front of the X-Sight would be better for night use.
I spend my money on dogs, hunting, racing, women, and whiskey - the rest I waste.

Im running a t-67 on two of mine and before the dimming demon got me I was getting 900 yds out of them. After the demon Im down to about 225 max on a full moon night, about 170 on a new moon. This illuminator does (advertised) 1k lumen with the ir pill in it. The focus feature is the big thing for me. Sorry for bringing the dimming into play but it has affected the range that the scope can see at night. The factory supplied illuminator is ok at best but at least one was sent with the units. Great for a starter.

Shadow, thank you for your feedback. Is this illuminator available in the US market? I only see it listed on UK websites.

I don't actually have the x-sight anymore but I hope to again. Anyway the T67 and others are available on ALiexpress for around 40 delivered I just two in. Ebay also. I personally would pay more for a laser illuminator. Great to see you here please let us know when they get the other problems worked out and I'll be on the x-sight bandwagon. I know that's not why you're here but if ATN would be a little more forthcoming with their interest in fixing the problems there would be a lot less people getting rid of them just my $0.02 thanks Dale

Dale I appreciate your feedback. I know it is hard to see all the activity on our end but everyone here is working restlessly to fix whatever issues are left with the Xsight. If you see the amount of firmware updates we have released in the past couple of months, it should show our dedication and commitment to the product and our customer satisfaction. Should we do more outreach to our customers? Absolutely. There is always room for more.
Is all that in the works, Yes. We are definitively looking into different systems that allow us to better connect with our customers and get hands feedback from them that helps us improve our product.

I would say no more than 200.00 for the super duper powerful IR and 100.00 for a better than stock IR option. The bottomline for me is the X-sight's total price is sub 1k so the IR shouldn't take it over 1k. It can perform better than scopes costing twice as much and I would be happy with that BUT I won't spend more than 20% of the total cost of the unit on an IR because there are too many current illuminators available on the market or yet to come that will make the performance close for less $$$.

Sachal, glad you are back on the forum. Seems like you left, right as I found it. Lots of information on this forum, the most I've been able to find anyway. I don't facebook.
I have to agree. I just got into the NV game. Bought the 5-18, and sent it back for the 3-12 because the FOV was to narrow. I ordered a T-50 on Ebay for $42.00 from China. Good Panasonic re-chargables, and a good charger cost a little more. I would like to be able to see to 250yds, but doubt that I'll be shooting that far.

Shadow, do you mind sending me their contact info. There are definitely plenty of options available, I guess the biggest challenge is to find an optimal balance of price/performance/size and durability.
If you guys have any other input, please feel free to share that with me.

Sachal - welcome back!
I bought a UNV20IR for about 200 bucks. It gets me out to about 200-250, never measured it but I'm in the ball park.
Based on that I would pay 200, get me to 300 to 350 yards I would go $300.
Not to hijack the thread but do you guys sell refurbed thermal monoculars? If so pm or email me.

carls customz on ebay, item number 201305566724 is the ones i would recommend, but they are in England. The problem you're going to get is there are 2 oslon black ir pills. One is much more powerful than the other. This is the one we have been using for the past couple of years, but they are power hungry and you will need a couple of spare batterys with you. To sort this out they brought another oslon black out and the battery lasted a lot longer, but the unit is nowhere near as good as the higher power ones. I bought one from china and put it at the side of my carls customz unit and found out it had the lower power oslon black fitted, so no good to me

Question for you guys. Would you guys sacrifice some contrast for brighter image? After numerous testing, it looks like anytime the sensor detects anything reflective or brighter in the center of the screen, it adjusts the contrast to compensate for the washed out effect. Now the sensor is doing what it is supposed to do, but in certain cases can cause the image to get darker. If we lock the contrast at a certain parameter and make the image brighter, would you guys be OK with the washed out image? Take a look at this video for example, exactly at 0:21 minute, the grass is completely washed out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wy-oXysypIs

I looked at the video and didn't see anything objectionable at the point you mentioned.
This is a video of a Photon and not an x sight. Is that the right one?
A few questions:
Could you make the feature you propose configurable so it can be turned on and off?
Could you make the auto dimming thing (sensor)configurable to turn on and off?
Can you lock the contrast as proposed and let us try it out?

I would try it. If possible as a later fix make the up and down button adjust contrast when in the brightness mode. Left/right brightness up/down contrast

Instead of having a contrast lock at a certain point for the developer, can you have it user adjustable? each user is probably using different IR lights, some brighter and some dimmer.
With an adjustable setting, let the user decide the amount of washout effect for his hunting situation.

Back to your original question, Sachal:
Something along the line of the UNV20IR for about 200 bucks would satisfy my requirements. Because of my hunting environment here in Central Texas, I don't have 200 yard + night sight shooting opportunities.

eddie, are these units an improvement over the factory-supplied IR on the X-sights?

The beauty of adjustable heads on IR lights is that you can control the beam and tune the image to your preference on image characteristics. The video you posted had too much IR at some points but the guy operating the equipment was focused on tracking the animal and not fiddling with the IR light. Happens all the time but we deal with it
