Just got a bonus that the wife don't know about. Got about $1000.00 to spend. I found a O/U Field Grade II in 20 ga. in Corsicana at Gander Mountain for TTL about $780.00. Made in Japan by the same folks that made Brownings, any advice. Oh and by the way it's for bird hunting and I do want a 20 ga. or 16 ga. gun. I'm leaning to the 20, but I'm not debating the gauge, just the maker. I would prefer a O/U over any other type.

Thanks

Spanky

Spanky,

I don't have any information to give you on the Charles Daly, but can offer some positive feedback on the Yildez O/U.

I bought a 20ga. from Academy last year, just before dove season, for $368 (plus they threw in an aluminum double gun travel case).

The break-open action was a little tight at first, but after a good oiling and a half case of shells through it, it's smooth as silk. Shoots great, has a 1st shot barrel selector, and comes with 5 screw-in chokes.

Just something you might want to look at. If you like it, you could get yourself another deer rifle with the money you saved.

I second fowlplayr on the Yildez O/U at Academy. My buddy got one last year for around the same price. Real nice wood and a little engraving. Feels/looks real nice. Again, with the money you save you could get another rifle of some type.....that's how I always look at things...JMO

From what I have seen, the Charles D. guns are pretty good for the money. But the Yildez O/U is a nice gun too. haven't shot one but they look to be very well made. Academy imports them and a friend of mine that works at the gun counter at Academy says they are a good gun and value too.

The Miroku Daly's are nice. It's very similar to the Browning Citori. It's a quality gun and if it fits, you will be pleased with it for many years.

Yes the Miroku Charles Daly O/U 's are excellent shotguns.. Whenever you find an older one(field grade) in clean shape, they are excellent. Just like a Browning Citori...
But Beware the cheap newer auto loaders, that Walmart used to carry, they are junk.... Charles Daly sold thier brand name a few years back...
- sounds like the Gander deal is a bargin, does it have newer screw in choke tubes? If so go short on the barrel length, like 24-28" range..
- A word of advice on the Gauge, go Either 20 or 12g. ... 16g-.410-.28g shells can be hard to find and usually do not go on sale like 12-20g ammo...

Bought it, has a 26" barrel with 5 chokes, and in 20 ga. Have not shot it yet, but tomorrow, I'm off work. Gonna run a couple of boxes thru it to start breaking it in. Thanks for all the input.

I haven't used a Charles Daily as yet, but I was at Acemdemy today and looked at the Yildez O/U there. It looked really nice, was light and had a great swing to it. It had selectable barrels, but only one trigger. $398.

I bought a cosmetically burdened 70's something CD Miroku o/u with fixed chokes and 26 in barells and its now my favorite little gun. Perfect dove and quail gun, paid $400 used and its way better quality that the new stuff priced at $800 plus. I wasn't worried about is having a few scratches; in fact I like that it has some character and is already broken in. Sweet little gun.
