For pistol I would say Dillon for rifle I could go Hornady or Dillon. Both have strong points and weaknesses

I need to shoot more and reload less time.

Well, I think all products have design flaws that are corrected by aftermarket parts. I looked around carefully and chose Dillon as someone who will load a ton of pistol and rifle.

It would help if you mentioned what rifle rounds and how many different one's you will be loading for. If you have multiple rounds to load for, I'd go Hornady Lock N Load (LNL). It is a very good progressive press with very simple caliber conversions and converted very quickly. The Dillon 1050 is awesome, but takes a lot of time for caliber conversions. If you have 1 rifle round to load for, Dillon 1050.

It would help if you mentioned what rifle rounds and how many different one's you will be loading for!! There's about 30 different routes you can go. You can get 30 different answers until we know what you have, how many rounds you want to load, and how precise you want them to be. Until then, no one can help you figure out what press or direction you can go.

I have 15 rifle cases between me and my sons. I have a Garand, sa93, and gew 98's I would like to 1k for each. My hunting rifles .5k or more. I have a large supply of consumables to reload, I have been buying for 30+ years. I expect my ammo to be accurate but I don't need every thing in bench rest accuracy. I have 3 single stage press. I hope this help you Chad pm if you need more information

550 or 650 with caliber conversions and be done with it.
I have loaded (lots of) 9, 45, 38 Spl, 357 Mag, 44 mag, 223, 308, 30-06, 300 WM... and probably others... on my 550 and have zero complaints.
For my precision and hunting rounds I even weigh every powder charge and still use the 550 (w/ powder hopper removed).

If money is no issue, and you want to be able to convert to do all rounds, then get a dillon super 1050 with a forcht autodrive (not PW). I've attached a link of one of our 1050's running full tilt. Titan Super 1050 2500 RPH .223

A Dillon 650 would be good. If you wanted a faster change from different calibers, I'd go Hornady LNL. The 550 is a step down from the 650. It's doesn't auto index like the 650 does. I'd probably go LNL.

You first mention soothing about a hornady chad.I have been looking hornady but their is a little cost. Every one hear suggest's Dillon. On of my main concerns is the warrenty. I have on occasionally seen 550 at estate say I bought a new one then I picked up a square deal or other machine. Would Dillon honor their warranties on a used machine.

have a Garand, sa93, and gew 98's I would like to 1k for each. My hunting rifles .5k or more. so I am going to assume thats yearly quantity... If it is you may want to consider just doing it on your single stage. Even if you get a 50% cost savings for reloading the time difference may not add up. So lets say 10 calibers that are 500 and 5 that are 1000. Thats a total of 10000 rounds. rounds a year. For sake of math its 1$ purchased and .50 reloaded. So 10k versus 5k. Well you have 1k in machine costs (press, dies, etc). We are not even talking case prep, cleaning, tumbling) So you are done to 4k savings. Than add on to it, time to find componets, ship, prep brass, load, store/maintain everything. I guess my point is i do not know if its right for you. But going in do the math and make sure reloading is right. List out your calibers, rounds fired last 3 years, find component prices versus retail, than talk to people who really reload to get a good time effort. I can load 100 45acp in under 10 minutes on my press, EASILY. But I spent hours picking up my brass, cleaning brass, moving it around, storing it, before i actually loaded. At that pointi shot pistol matches and frequently on the weekend and was going through 1500 45acp rounds a month If you do decide to go progressive...Great... First for auto indexing you are looking at the lnl ap or the dillon 650. Both are great machines. Dillion advertise the no BS warranty however i have not seen any issue with my lnl ap. Mainly if you take care of preventative care either machine should last a life time. Even when i called Hornady with a problem that was obviously mine they took care of it for free. They approach caliber switches differently and you will want to investigate both and really think about what you want to do IMO The dillion 650 has all dies on a plate than can be removed in seconds by removing pins...If you want the fastest caliber conversation you are going to by the machines than 10 tool heads. This is going to add up quickly. However it will be the fastest possible change over. Or you can manually unscrew and reset the dies for each caliber. IMO you lose the benefit of the 650 in this way. The lnl ap has all the dies in a sleeve. You just rotate the sleeve in and out. The die stays set the entire time. These sleeves are cheaper than the tool heads but a hair slower. With the powder drop...the dilllon is a bar system so you would need multiple bars. With the lnl ap you need multiple powder inserts. Or you could just buy multiple powder drops. When it comes to progressive reloading it is either team blue (dillon) or team red (hornady). Both are great units. Both have the ardent supporters and distractors. I would not take a small sampling of dillon fans to mean the hornady is a bad product. I would recommend you got to ultimate reloader and look that their videos on setting up and loading. Than make a plan. I went with hornady because of the change over method. Part of me wishes i would have gone with the dillon, but it would cost me another 150 a caliber to do a change over the way I would have wanted to do it (separate powder drop, tool head, and holder) not include cost of dies. The problem was at the time i had more time than money, now i have less time

jdk1985 hit it right on the nose. You might as well start out with what you will end up with!
Dillon 550 if you want to save money.
Dillon 650 if you want faster change overs and don't mind a little extra expense.
Dillon will honor their warranty on used machines also. I know this for a fact. They have sent me parts for a couple of used machines that I bought.
And yes, the Hornady LNL is a very good machine (I own one) but for ease of change-over and ease of operation the Dillon is hard to beat.

Would Dillon honor their warranties on a used machine. I figure Dillon would be the best place for than answer? I have had a 550b since about 1989. There isn't much that I can tell you can tear up. Once I chipped a shell plate. They sent me a new one. But I bought this machine from them.

Dillon will honor warranties on used presses. I am very happy with my 550. I used to shoot 8,000 pistol rounds and roughly 4-5k rifle per year, and it works quite well.
The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.

Thank you for the warrantee information on Dillon. The 550 is out since is manual indexing, the 1150 is out since I shoot large rifle. I am interested in a 650. How do most people change out calibers? You must buy extra heads and shell plates. What about the linkage for the powder measure. A longtime friend loads on dillon and put L.N.L. powder on his 650. Some of the posters suggest that hornady would be faster to change out dies. I have a small progressive already for pistol. The reason for getting a progressive is to cut down on my time spent reloading .

the 1150 is out since I shoot large rifle. The 1050 will easily do large rifle, so not sure what you mean. There is a huge quality difference between a 650 and a 1050. Here's the deal for the 650. You can easily change calibers with a different tool head swap. I can do a caliber change (including a shell plate) in about 45 minutes to an hour. It will load decent ammo. You should be able to make about 300-500 rounds of rifle in a hour. With a 1050, you can load about 500-800 rounds an hour. It will make better ammo than a 650. You can change out tool heads on a 1050, but it's expensive and takes longer. I can do a caliber change in about 2-3 hours on one. It takes longer. If you went Hornady LNL, you can get the ease of caliber changes in about 10 minutes, or less, depending on a few factors. You can use standard dies with the Hornady die bushings to make caliber swaps very fast. You can load ammo on this about the same speed as a dillon 650, but with better ammo. The most expensive route will be the 1050, and the Hornady LNL and 650 about the same cost. I would go LNL or 1050 for you application. The 650 will work, but I don't like loading rifle rounds on it, especially if I am sizing at the same time.

The 550 is not auto indexing like you already noted... but caliber change only takes 5-ish minutes

Thanks for your reply chad. When you mean quality, is it run out or just in accurate load?
Dose the 1050 have more leverage than the 650?
I will have to have a quite a few extra tool heads and the difference,
I thought between the machines is no. of die spaces.
