Got some pictures of this guy at our place in Kinney co., hes the 1st one ive seen.







He showed up while i was sitting in the stand it was pretty funny watching him climb the hog panels, he went up like a ladder the kicked his leg over and climbed down it in reverse very slowly. I had another pic where one of the whitetails was eating a foot from him apparently there buddies.

We see more killed along the road than we ever see alive in the wild. Nice pics.

IME they seem to like protein and when you start feeding it they will show up if they are any around.

Killed three in brady last two years. Hell on trees and dogs. One of the reasons I had to modify feederss. Had on get in one. Not a fun day

killed a couple on our place. I was worried about the dog tangling with them and neighbor said they eat the crown out of the oak trees. We kill everyone we see. Now if they would eat cedars, I might reconsider

I kill 7-10 every year at my camp. They will eat cedars up our way and every other kind of tree we have. My walker is trained to tree them and knows not to engage. They are not as bad as coons for eating bait but are hell on the trees. I typically use the 12 gauge with 1 7/8 oz turkey load in #6 if in a tree or the 17HMR if on the ground although the last one took a 165 grain pill from the .308 as that happened to be what I had handy.

Watched one climb in the pen exactly how you're describing last year. Was pretty funny to watch. we actually walked up to the pen once we were done hunting and he just sat in there and looked at us no more than 5 feet away. I bet those t-posts were fun to drive in the ground through all those rocks.

That looks like a young one in that pic. I have seen quite a few of them and used to kill 5 or so per year in Kendall County. The were really bad on trees in the winter months. They can move a lot faster than what you think.

I don't believe I'd shoot anything that eats cedar trees. Second only to Chinese Tallow trees as the most worthless tree in the state. IMHO.

I have no doubt that is true in Texas. The eastern cedars we have on the other hand are crucial to the survival of our whitetail through the winter months. The thick canopy in an eastern cedar bush lot traps 60-70% of the snow that falls. This provides an insulating blanket that creates a microclimate where it can be 15 degrees warmer on a cold night. Less snow on the ground also makes it easier for them to evade predators and lastly the deer actually eat the cedar when there is no other food available.

Now THAT is cool. I've never seen a porcupine in real life before.

Our place is also in Kinney, and we have more of them than coons now. Real common out there. Got as many as 6 at a time on cam. Definitely hard on trees, and are protein hogs. Lots of pics of them under the protein spout keeping the WT and axis away. Mostly nocturnal. They often trigger my hog traps and just climb out the top openings. I'm gonna try to trap them with the smaller traps, but they do not seem to go for the same bait that works for coons. May try corn, and I have read a salt soaked rag will pull them in.

I think they are cool little critters. I see several a year and they make great photo targets because they will let you get so close to them.
