We ended up catching three baby hogs while walking back from duck hunting and I was wondering how to know how old they are when we caught them they still had the embilicul cords on them. now they dont but we caught them last weekend. I have just been feeding them formule and dumping some feed in there with it and it makes it all soggy and i think they are eating some of it and i was just wondering how old they should be to take them off of formula?

They were days old when you caught them, give them a couple more weeks before taking them off the formula. After that, they should be able to eat anything. Good excuse to feed them to eat them

Corn meal and room temp buttermilk, I have raised a bunch of those little buggers. You can also use calf milk replacer. I had one that was so fat it could not run more that five feet with out stopping. They also do better if you raise them on a dirt floor pen. DRJ

Milk it does the body good. I had one like those and just gave it oatmeal. Pretty neat animals, followed me around like a dog.

Those things are tiny! I'd let them get about 30 lbs and eat em! Don't let your kids name them or you'll never get to kill them.

Good luck killing them after you've raised em. Its not hard to get attached to smart little buggars like that. Either way you might want to cut their teeth (tusks). Otherwise they'll be hard on eachother when they get bigger. Went squirrel hunting with a buddy in high school and stumbled on one about that size. That thing grew up thinking he was a dog. My buddy had to put a flame orange collar on him because he'd run out into the woods when we'd go hog hunting. Was the funniest sight he was named "pig pig."

I was raised on a farm and we had lots of pigs. It's just a mind set you have to have, never get attached to anything that might be supper one night.
Hunting is more to me than Antlers on the wall. It's more about the memories you make, and sharing those memories with friends, and family.

Wait till they get up to about 7 or 8 pounds and then process them.
Cut the carcass up similar to a rabbit, season the meat, coat the pieces in flour and chicken fry them, the only way to eat baby oinker. JMO.

Hate to tell you this Littlehuntinboy, but what you have done is illegal with the Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) regulations on the transportation & movement of Live feral hogs. Wherever they are caught or trapped on a tract of land, they either must be killed immediately before leaving that property or brought to an approved TAHC holding facility or slaughtering house.
I can tell you this, that the TAHC agents do monitor this site as well as the Texas Boars website and others on feral hog articles, posts, questions, advertisements and replies.
I'd get rid of them quick, either with a .22 and eat or .22 and bury.

You guys keep posting these closeups of hogs and I won't want to shoot them! They're surprizingly cute, even the larger ones.

And surprisingly tasty.... And surprisingly destructive too....
All of Gods creations are beautiful. I personally think that deer are magnificent creatures, but that doesn't stop me from putting them in my freezer.
