Maybe we can keep this one on topic, i.e. concerns for the firmware, fixes, workarounds etc. If you have other issues start another thread or use the one thats already on the board.

Maybe we can keep this one on topic Hopefully the firmwares become less of a front and center after this release and we can then begin to discuss the successes involved with using the digital technology in the field. I have a feeling that we have worn out the Mod(s) patience for senseless side talk and would be best served to do as you say and stay on topic. That doesn't mean we can't discuss the good and the bad but remaining civil has been the challenge. I'll load the firmware onto my 5x X-sight tonight and give a report back to you after a couple of days use. HTXH

take the card out and pull the battery cover then power up and it should say firmware installed. I have found if the card is left in the scope seems to look to reinstall the update.

not off to a good start, i cant get past "please wait configuring wifi" screen. I have tried re-installing it several times each time reverting to another firmware. Upon initialization of the new firmware package the scope is absolutely un-responsive to button presses, i.e. you cannot disable Wi Fi ? Is that correct?

no, the new firmware is a two part install, first the main install then reboot and then a "please wait Configuring wifi" screen. the message doesn't go away. I tried manually turning it off which make it and it starts reboot cycling. if i was able to get it to start once but when i tred to enabled the wifi it stated a reboot loop again.

First impressions. Can't turn on GPS. Wifi works but when you turn it off the screen blacks out and comes back on, not a reboot just a blackout for a couple seconds. Stills and video work and stills during video works. All the other functions seem to work. I'll report back after sighting in.

The release notes on the software page point out that GPS is disabled in this release (no geotags, velocity, or altitude). Likewise, standalone stills is turned off, to test the new "stills during video" feature.
Looks like they have identified some of the battery drain issue, and are working on it. Will be curious to see how the sleep mode works, that could be a real winner if they get it right.
Everywhere I go, there I am.

Thanks Tapper. I didn't read the notes I just went to testing On another note you can indeed now remove the batteries after hooking up an external power source. I really like the direction we're moving. Hopefully my zero isn't full blown off after this install.

my updated worked fine:
- I removed the card and formatted it - installed the v248 xsight.bin file on the mSD card - put card in camera and powered on, it did the update, then it powered off and back on and finished updated, then it power off/on again and said it was successfully updated, I selected ok, then it powered off/on again and since the card was in asked if I wanted to installed, I select 'x' to get out, went to the menu and reformatted the mSD card, it later powered off/on again, so I shut down, removed battery cap and put back on, all is fine.
for updates: - I selected 3x from the menu items - I selected reticle zoom (other option is centered), this way it always zooms around the reticle - I turned off all the display stuff like clock, wifi, etc - I selected extended zoom, on the 3x the standard zoom goes from 3-12x and on extended it goes from 3-30x, seems to work well.
Make sure to go through the menu items one by one for the settings you want
Will test tonight in night mode, however on the V246 beta the brightness/contrast didn't appear any different from V228. Also, will test flicker tonight, on V246 beta the flicker was still in low light.
GPS is turned off in this version, will come on at a later time.
All in all ATN is getting there with firmware/scope functionality.

Kohj: remove the msd card. See if your device will boot. If so, go into setup and see what version it has you on.

There seems to be a glitch with some scopes with this update where the WiFi update does not install correctly. Mine did same thing. Take the card out of the scope and take battery cover off. Then power back up it should say firmware updated. Word of caution, when I turned on WiFi under WiFi/GPS in the menu the scope went into an endless loop of ATN home screen then recticle and all keys are locked. The only way I got it to work was to manual power off, install .246 firmware then install .248 using above method and then not turn on WiFi. Everything else seems to work but no WiFi, I tried it twice and ended up in the same situation. I never use WiFi so I am not that concerned but others might be.

When it reboots and after configuring device mine also hangs up on configuring wi fi , here is how I got by it Note your compass is not responding while it is hung on this screen another tale tale sign the scope is hung Remove the sd card and drop the batteries out When you reposed up you'll see the ATN splash screen and may get an additional firmware success message and then you'll see a spinning compass and a reticle

I tried calling ATN again this afternoon and got to speak with a rep very quickly. I ordered a sunshade for my 5-18 as I have the correct model, threaded. But I did get some disturbing information on another issue I've had from the start. I'm not going to post about again as I don't want to start a bash party. I asked the rep about the flicker, which on my unit is bad. As in it's distracting. I was informed the flicker is normal, there will be no addressing it via firmware or anything else. I replied that it isn't normal and many have units which don't flicker. Here is a video. The flicker grows worse the longer the vid goes. The rep told me it's normal, it's the refresh rate. Well, no it isn't or this flicker observed is not the refresh rate of an X-Sight which is functioning correctly. The flicker is not present in any promo vids, it isn't present in many vids on utood. Yet what I have is "normal". This wasn't addressed in the firmware update. So I don't anticipate my X-Sight will not flicker from now until forever. Therefore, if you have flicker it's normal, if you got a unit that produces video which resembles the video demo in display cases seen in retail locations, it's most likely broken, not functioning correctly. Cheers

My flicker isn't that bad. It was worse at low light amplification setting. You might try medium if you are not already on it. Also batteries that are not fully charged seem to make mine a little worse.

Guess I was lucky. Mine hung at the 100%, like previous, but when I loosened the battery cover, and rebooted, it did proceed on through the update, and wifi steps with no further problem. So, reset all my parameters, and will see how it does tomorrow night!!! I am shimmed to true zero, so no worries about loss of electronic zero.

Bob: I will let you know in about an hour. Seemed like mine did that on .228. Probably tied to a contrast issue. Update: just took it outside. 100 yds to the tree line. Looked ok with the UNV20ir. No perceptible issue with dimming. Will check again tomorrow night.
