Looking to purchase a semi auto handgun as a sidearm for hogs. I have a .40 but looking to bump up to a .45 or 10mm and just looking for some feedback. Thanks in advance.

Glock 20 (10mm) would be perfect. Affordable, lightweight, reliable, excellent capacity, and can shoot the full-house loads.

I would choose a 44 magnum ruger blackhawk revolver and call it a day. Not only a sidearm, but you could hunt with it if bored.

I love stalking pigs with a hand gun, but I have no personal experience hunting them with any caliber semi-auto. Not saying there is anything wrong with one, I just love hunting with wheel guns. I have grown fond of pretty much any 357 mag with a 6" barrel. That's just me. I can shoot one accurately and it hits them like Thor's hammer with a decent bullet, within pistol range.

I had a hog charge me from under a gooseneck trailer out at the farm several years ago. I did not know he was there. 200lbs+. I emptied my Colt 10mm into him, and he finally stopped moving as I ran out of bullets (7+1). I KNOW that I hit him repeatedly, but he kept coming right at me. I was so thankful that I did not stumble or fall down as I was hauling #@$% backwards while firing. Terrifying. I always thought my 10mm with protection rounds was pretty stout. Hogs are tough, especially if they are pumped up.

For a simi auto its going to be hard to beat a Glock 20 in 10mm in both price and performance. Sure you could step up to a Desert Eagle in 44Mag or 50AE but you will pay dearly for one of them.
I have put plenty of wounded hogs down with a 357 Sig and even killed one from a distance of about 45 yards last year when I didn't have a rifle with me. What ever the 357 Sig can do the 10mm can do better and I haven't seen to much the 357 Sig cant do to begin with.

Agree with a Glock in 10mm. It will get the job done

I carry a Ruger Stainless 1911 fullsize loaded with FMJ as a sidearm - because it's what I have and better than the .22! My goto pig rifle is a 6.8x43 AR so... I fancied hunting with this 6.8 pig pistol with 8.5" Bison barrel but carried it around when fixing fence and riding the pig trails on the 4wheeler more than actually hunting with it. It's fun, accurate, amazingly gentle to shoot but definately not a sidearm. It is really comes into it's own at greater than most pistols can reach range and shoots a 120gr Hornady SST close to 2500FPS! It's 22.5" short with BRT linear comp on front. The BRT linear comp sent the muzzle blast forward so it was even fairly gentle on the ears - wouldn't want to shoot 100 rounds without ear protection but in a hunting situation with one or two shots, it was OK.

Now thats high-tech ... Big upgrade from my caveman days. As pappy said: the more money ya have, the more Freedom. with high-tech like that, might explain why seeing less hogs.

I have have a couple Glock 20 SF and a Kimber 1911 in 10mm. Largest Hog I killed was with the Kimber. I also have a Glock 29. Shot a Yote with the Glock 29 at 62 yards.
I am a huge fan of the 10mm. I have killed Hogs, Yotes, Blackbuck, Rams, Sika, WT Deer, Turkey, Red Deer and, a Mountain Lion all with the 10mm.

I have a Model 44SS6 I traded for with a member here. I've killed a deer with it so far and hopefully few pigs will fall to it this year as well.

I have hunted pigs (and deer) with .44 mag Super Blackhawk, as well as a Contender in 30-30, 7 TCU,6.5 TCU, and .35 Remington. BUT the most fun is my Glock 10mm with the 6.5" Lone wolf barrel. Now I'm on 2 waiting lists to get the new G40 long slide 10.

Forgot about a buddy that has this monster stainless 30-30 wheel gun with scope mounted on top. He's been aching to go after a pig with it.

Ive used black hawk and red hawk 44 mag to kill hogs and deer. One time I dumped a clip of 9mm in the side of a hog and he just ran off real funny like, but I have killed some with a 22 ruger pistol. head and spine shots. Sometimes when I get bored I put on some good running shoes and chase them through the woods with the 22 aiming for the ear. kinda fun. I think it makes them more scared when you chase them on foot. I can tell by the way they run. haha It will make you laff
Recently got a gym membership, strange folks! I like to show up the roid zombies with my full motion curls with the 55lb. bells. Not their cheater short stroked light weights. It's holarious.

Springfield Tactical 45 acp. Killed many of hogs with mine with target loads. They keep driving without opening up. Believe me, I shot a sow 7 times with hollow points. There is a 10mm on the firearms section that looks real nice. Wish I had the money!

The most portable/powerfull semi auto handgun is a Glock 21 with a .460 Rowland conversion barrel. Puts the 10mm to shame.
