It's strange that every 1911 I have owned has run wonderfully with minimal cleaning, and rarely have parts break. On the other hand, I have broke frame pins in Glocks, and had more issues with light primer strikes.
Some folks won't ever learn. So all 1911s are created equal? I think it's obvious, they are not. That was my point. Lots of guys are saying, "well I've never had a 1911 malfunction on me, or mine feeds everything..." but unless they are shooting the issued 1911 in question in similar battle scenarios, it's apples to oranges. The kimber they shoot at the range isn't the same gun. I believe that is correct. It would appear that the M45A1 was not specced properly to serve its intended purpose. I think a 1911 could be built to do the job, but Colt Defense failed.

"The 1911 was the design given by God to us through John M. Browning that represents the epitome of what a killing tool needs to be. It was true in 1911 and is true now." —Colonel Robert J. Coates, USMC
