This year I was fortunate enough to draw the coveted hog deer tag here in Australia. Last week I got to do the hunt and it was the greatest hunting experience of my life. It was very challenging, for the balloted week I had there i saw two stags and managed to take one of them at 150m. He's a 7pt which for axis deer is unusual, he's got an interesting shape with both antlers having different shape. Unfortunately the other 3 hunters didn't manage to see any deer neither hind or stag. The smile still hasn't left my face.
I prefer meat in it's original packaging.

Thanks guys,
Well in Australia they say the only thing better than chital is hog deer! I had some the other night and it was delicious.
They're a different species to chital axis, axis is the genus which just means they're closely related species. Chital are axis axis and hog deer are axis pornicus.
He dressed out at 74lb, we can't break them down in the field as they have to be taken to the checking station whole so I had to lump him over my back and carry him 3km back to camp through teatree thickets with a dying headlamp and 90% humidity! Just added to the fun of the hunt I suppose!
I prefer meat in it's original packaging.

I put in for that ballot every year, never even got a chance. There is supposed to be a similar ballot for Rusa south of Batemans on the coast. No details on it though.
