I took some advice from some posts on here and just ordered my first Trad bow. I couldn't be more excited, I went with the Samick Sage 55# and gold tip traditional arrows with 400 spine. I'm looking for feedback to what grain and type of broadheads the other trad hunters use? Thanks and any feedback is appreciated!
Why is it that every time I push #1 for english, I cannot understand the person on the other end???

Whew, 55# is an awful lot of weight to be pulling. If you shoot a compound, its not going to be the same.

I pull 73# with my compound with no problems, i'm a pretty healthy 31 years old. I debated weather or not to go with the 50# but it's my first trad bow and when I become better I plan on upgrading. Probably in 2 years, I may go down to 50 if 55 is too much juice for me. I should find out by the end of the week, i'm crossing my fingers. I also shoot a lot so I know it will take two or three months to build up the arm/shoulder strength.

I picked up a trad bow this year. I'm 58 and pulling over 50 pounds with no trouble. You'll be fine.

I'm shooting 62#, but I have shot 55# bows for many years. You can basically go ahead and sell your compound, as traditional shooting is highly addictive. Just about any two or three blade cut-on-contact broadheads will work. I shoot 125grn Magnus heads.
The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.

Congrats to the OP. Trad archery is a lot of fun. If you shoot 70+ lbs on the compound 55 is doable with the recurve.

Shoot what ya like. 40lb bow will easily kill deer and so will a 55+. Your probably gonna want around 500 gns total for your arrows but shoot what ya like and shoot best.
It ain't easy being me.

Its mainly about developing form and not bad habits. I'm sure you can pull a 80# bow, but can you be accurate with it? Another thing you might want to look into is your draw length. Your bow is 55@28. If you draw 29 or 30" Then your recurve just turned into a 60# bow. Its a +/- rule to add or subtract 2-3# per inch of draw length. Shoot a lot. Once you get consistent, tune your arrows. Try the stu calculator to give you a ballpark idea on where your arrows need to be, then go from there. Just my piece of advice. I'm 32 and have shot a bunch of critters with my 47# recurve and 50# longbows. I will not lie, my next one will be 55#, but 50# is plenty. Good luck on your trad adventure! I'll have to warn you...It's addicting. If you think you hoard bows, wait till you shoot trad.

I shoot 72# compound, and a 45# long bow, I shoot the long bow a heck of a lot longer and more frequently than I do my compound.

I shoot a 55# Bob Lee and started with a 58# Lee, my advice is to start working on your form and not be to concerned about accuracy. Start out at 5 yards and really pay attention to your nocking point, draw your bow till your mind/body start doing the same thing and end up drawing to the exact same spot without you having to worry about it. Once you get your form then start walking back 5 yards at a time as your groups get tighter. If you get to 15 yards and your groups start to spread out move back to 10 yards and work on form. You will be addicted and have more fun than you ever imagined you could shooting a bow. I shoot GoldTip 5575s with 100 grain inserts and 125 grain magnus 2 blades. Good luck

Clay That's about the same set up as I shoot. I have a dozen Goldtip Traditional 5575 with 100 grain inserts and 135 gn zwickey's. Another dozen same arrow I have set up with 220 gn Muzzy Phantoms either set up will work with that 55 DW Sammick Sage. BTW that Sammick shoots as good as a lot of more expensive bows.

Congrats! I just recently sold my compound. I'm 100% trad now. And as others have said, it is addicting!
