Seems like I'm being told to quiet down and since I have not much to report on the included ATN illuminator I'll just leave it where it is until the next firmware release to see what the night time performance looks like then...

This is the new T50 vs.the T20, i have had no chance to compare
since i returned my 5X for a a 3X.

But it's short and compact, and should be a good one.

With what is reported on .228 it seems as though ATN limited the sensor so as it doesn't matter how much light you throw at it it just can't see far out BUT when and if that gets changed there may be legs to the IR discussion.

So what you are saying is that ATN has so badly hobbled the X-Sight that it has less sensitivity than a standard Gen 1 NV scope and that given how much power is being needed to see very well from IR illuminators in the dark, it is really a step backwards in NV despite all the new technology. Got it.

I didn't mention Gen1 in any way.

And I usually avoid statements like "so badly hobbled"

We'll see what the next firmware brings and test and hunt from there.

My included IR is also running down the batteries in about one week of non-use. While I understand that batteries should be removed when the devices are not in use, I really feel they should not be draining completely down in just a week with the device off. Been through two sets. And yes, I am sure it is not accidently turned on. The discussion of other IR devices is informative, however, am I the only one who feels that the illuminator that ATN included should be adequate to at least 100 yards? Maybe the coming new firmware will facilitate this. I hope so.

I don't know if you all noticed but ATN did update the online manual to 228 now. http://manual.atncorp.com/

Grey - I moved my X-sight IR to the front of my AR10. I can now see to at least 175 yards +. Give it a try.

Thanks for the tip. Are u referring to the IR that came with the x sight? And did you mount it on the top, bottom, or side of the barrel?

Noob here. Hopefully I am allowed here, I live one state to the west. smile I do hunt hogs south of Amarillo though.

I have read nearly 80 pages in two different threads on the X-sight. Definitely interesting.

Has anyone figured out the logic in the BDC option? Doesn't seem to be enough information in the menu to actually calculate bullet drop.

Is it possible the option only calculates bullet drop on uphill/downhill shots? Doesn't seem like ATN would waste their time on something like that?

What am I missing, how does it work? Didn't see anything in the manual, presumably because it is experimental.

You aren't missing anything the BDC doesn't work at all. I think it was just a bone ATN threw out to keep us on the x-sight hook (so many were and are returning them). You're correct more info would be needed to actually do any calculation, bullet caliber and weight, MV, and BC at least. So maybe they will add the feature eventually. Right now I'd be happy if the reticle stayed on the screen past 4X zoom! I won't even go into the other issues, I'm sure you read them all.

Yes the X-Sight IR that came with the NV scope. I mounted it on the left side of my rails as far forward as possible. I haven't tried any other mounting (top/bottom) positions.

I'll add that I tested a Streamlight 69150 TLR-1 and I'm seeing about 20% improvement but I haven't captured an animal (Hog/raccoon/rabbit) beyond 175 yards to really obtain maximum distance where I can see the body not just the eyes.

I ordered a UNV 20 IR that I hope will give me full body visibility to 225+ yards that I need for hunting hogs over a wheat food plot.

Here we go Boys

"We have received the following update today from the CEO of ATN Corp ref the ATN X Sight Firmware Update status.

"We are currently finalizing the major changes in the reticle centering and expect to have our internal release by Tuesday of next week.

From that point on we will need several more days to extensively test it (including in the field) and hope to release the next firmware version by Friday February 27th."

Anyone else see the similarities between this and the movie "The Money Pit"?
Always 2 weeks more............ bs

I went to switch my 5X for a new 3X yesterday and went with the distributor to sight it in and another one he mounted on a personal AR of his.
He had not tested any prior to this.

What we experienced.

1st off, the 3X manual focus never got a clear, non blurry image in either unit. No comparison on image quality between the 3X and my 5X.

2nd, we used white paper target with red bulls eyes, The targets were not visable through the scope, totally washed out. We were in a covered bench area and sun was not on the lenses. No adjustment we could make solved this issue.

3rd, At 25 yds, his was off the target by 12" and off bulls eye by another 18". Yep, zeroing it moved the retical almost off the screen at 3X.

Based on image quality, I passed on the 3X. I'm giving ATN the next update to give me a functioning scope that has a centered reticle and holds zero through range of magnifications.

And Shoots100 says "Turn that frown upside down! Have hope! Unicorns! Rainbows! What's another week?"

ATN hasn't earned anything from me except skepticism. IF the firmware comes next week, and IF it has the mythical "centered reticle" (which no other scopes have, right?), I am now seriously considering ending my self-imposed 30-day static battery test, mounting it, and checking not just for the ability to hold zero, but if the thing even came with a mount physically capable of repeatably guiding a bullet to a target (which no other scopes have, right?). If it doesn't, I am ready to report those findings to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, and recommend others do as well. Good grief...

This could reach a point where, for safety's sake, that will be the only thing to do.

I don't really have the time to set this up today, but for your amusement, I found this:

Don't return your x-sight now! If you do you'll miss all the fun of finding what problems the new firmware creates. After all every release so far fixed almost nothing but created new issues. I had read from someone on here that the new release was coming on the 20th? I think that info was from Scott Country also. Now it's the 27th and who knows if will actually work. Skepticism, you bet! Who wouldn't be a skeptic after this comedy of errors. A petition would only work if ATN actually cares about it's customers. So far from what I've seen they don't. I mean let's face it this is worse than the rollout of Obamacare! Like the government no one seems to want to hold ATN accountable. What are they doing or going to do for those of us who have had $$$ money tied up in their scope for months? What are they going to do for those who have been involuntary beta testers?

And what really gets me is if you look at the ATN web site it still says the x-sight is the best thing since sliced bread! No mention of any issues, beta testing, non working features, nothing! That lie is repeated on all the US distributor sites also. Who do we report this to? Who holds ATN accountable? Even if this new release (whenever it comes out) does fix some of the main issues do we just thank ATN for screwing us over for months and move on?

End of rant.

You know, at this point I would rather ATN take there time and test this firmware than I. If they are really checking it out and field testing it. I would rather them do it than I waste my ammo and time finding out after I rezero and check things out that I need to go back to the 200 firmware. I understand everyone getting upset, I too am not very happy. But if they (ATN) is going to check to make sure there are no other bugs perhaps the next firmware roll out will go smooth. Just food for thought. Whats another week or two. we waited this long. Keeping my figures crossed that this fixes the issues. At least there is talk of the firmware, where two weeks ago there was nothing. Keeping the faith.. lol

Personally, I wish they offered up nightly builds of the firmware. If you don't want to play with it don't, but if you do then at least you have the option. Actually, I can't wait for the day when we have something along the lines of cyanogenmod for the X-Sight. Also, I have not had any zero shifts when going back and forth between versions ***AND*** setting the reticle coordinates back to what I had logged for that version. I write the firmware version and the coordinates on the ammo box and in my shooting log.

Now if they could just come up with a firmware upgrade that makes it about a pound lighter. roflmao

Wow, lot of feedback on the X-Sight here.
Picked up the 5-18 a week or so ago after a neighbor to an amigo where I hunt pigs brought one over to show it. Today my amigo said he ordered one. I downloaded the latest firmware and was hoping to sight it in tomorrow. Looks like that may not be possible.
Anyway, I had a Gen 1 scope and the IR that came with it is useless.
I ordered a Streamlight 88704 IR illuminator. When it comes in I'll
post on how it works out, using the X-Sight and the Gen 1 scope.

Cheers

Dirt, I live in Austin. We should get together and discuss our x-sight good and bad experiences over a cold one sometime. I've had mine for 6 weeks now and used it maybe 8 nights at my lease.

I'm sorry for not replying, I was out hunting with my scope.
No videos of any unicorns being shot, as It's been so cold and windy here.
Maybe when it warms up.
You still testing that scope, or are you going to mount it on a rifle and shoot something with it ?
