I just hope they used those genetics on pure Persians(or close to it) and not going TT and using it on Angoras/Farm Goats. I bet you were really hoping they would cross it with a Corsican. Nah. I like wild sheep and goats for the way they are.

Mine will try to cross with anything that will stand still. You might not want to crawl around on all fours in the fall if you are in the same pasture as them.

Sounds like he took one in the shoulder while in a fight or was blind sided but another Ibex or Mouflon or??? Ibex are not bad about blind siding. They just rear up and knock the hell out of each others head and horns. Never seen the Mouflon mess with the Ibex. Seen things happen around hay or feed or a female in heat that you would not think would happen. He could have had a brain injury also from fighting with another Ibex. Did you cut his horns off? No, did not cut off horns. I will let the varmits and buzzards do their thing and then get them. The males were by themselves. no females with them. You never know one of them may have blind sided him in the neck or shoulder. But it was different in that the longer his problem lasted the worse it got. I had removed him from the rest a couple of weeks ago to see if that helped. But he got worse each day. Just one of those things you never figure out. Another reason everybody is not raising Ibex. Isolating the injured one is the best thing you could have done for sure

Kobus, you can never let it go..always saying something nasty about Thompson Temple or any type of hybrid. All you accomplish with these types of post are to show you are immature and embarrass yourself.

Is it possible he might of got his leg stuck in a rock or a tree and injured himself getting out? When an animal injures itself like you suggest it usually gets better over time. I would bet it was either something going wrong internally or in his brain. Nothing was broken that I could see. Both front legs would not work the way they should. Every day for the last two weeks he was having a harder time getting around. Yesterday morning he was laying down and was beating his head against the ground to try to get leverage to get on his feet. That was when I said enough is enough and put him down. And no I did not consult a Vet. If this had happened to numerous Ibex I probably would have. I have never seen this problem before. Like navasote had suggested it was like a vitamin or mineral problem. But like I stated they get plenty of both. I have contacted vets before about different problems. Have also sent samples and fetuses off to Tx. A&M. to find out if they could find the problem. Spent quite a bid without any solutions. The best answer to a problem I had with an Ibex quite a few years ago was the Vet. told me the only thing he could figure out it had the Bandera Goat Disease.

I have seen similar symptoms with feeding alfalfa hay. Goats can be sensitive to too much protein in the diet.

I have seen similar symptoms with feeding alfalfa hay. Goats can be sensitive to too much protein in the diet. The males are running around in a fairly large pasture. They get very little alfalfa. I don't believe that is what the problem was. thanks for the information though.

sorry you lost that goat don. hope your kidding season goes well. Thanks Aaron. Hope yours goes well also. Mine should be starting very soon. And like you said. Tom, Dick and Harry have no idea what it takes on raising Ibex. They are very interesting and smart and you learn more every day.
