I bowhunted the king ranch in the late 90's, (nilgai & jav.) went with 4 arrow outfitters (not sure whatever happened to them). Saw plenty of javelina and nilgai, but OMG, they had some great deer. Would gladly go back at some point.

you dont know what you are missing until you get out there and slam horns.. holy smokes its a big rush. They respond better on the king and surrounding area than most anywhere else.. ask anyone who has done this. Its a totally different type of hunting.. Just picture it.. this buck could be a small buck or a giant 200 inch deer thats running in at you full speed ready to kick some a$$ .. thats what im talkin about! Most come within 50 yards. I had one nearly run me over a few years ago I was so camoflauged.. it kinda scared me!

dude, i have nothing to do with the king ranch..have never even hunted on it..i just fantasize about it.. i have just been fortunate to hunt a buddys ranch that borders a portion of the king in riviera, tx.. Have taken a handfull of 150+ deer..mostly rattling them in
You can pay to hunt a high fence if you want..thats fine.. but in my opinion if i were to pay, i would love to hunt a free range place where I know the deer i shot could have run to an adjoining property and get shot or get away just as easy. Alot of people will agree on the satisfaction that comes with it. My point was if you are on the fence about hunting for a gauranteed shot at a good buck, High fence is not your only option. Trust me. The buck to doe ratio is damn good on the ranch and surrounding areas.
And that pricing was trophy.. there culls are cheaper and you would be surprised at the cull deer.

Personally see no differance between the King Ranch and any Large HF ranch thats has natraul genetics. And I have hunted the King Ranch.

Our deer hunting experience isn't exactly horrible, and we are an all native, no DMP, no imports of any kind deer herd.

My friend up in Young county is working on putting some places together that while not High Fenced, will be some what more like a regular lease, except blinds and feeders will be supplied and maintained.

These will be season long places with the county limits and herd management program already in place for several years now.

I am not sure on prices, but they will out of necessity be somewhat on the high side.

For some that will be a no go, but for folks interested in having a place to go to all season and not have to fill feeders or maintain blinds, just show up and hunt, it will be worth it.

I'm going to replay the last five years on my old deer lease in Kingsland, Tx. Heres what we had:
Cabin/running water and elect./shower & indoor plumbing.
900 acres/12 deer stands. Two p/man
12 feeders/solar/fed year round
Hand-shake every year on the lease/served 25 years as full member. Hunted there since 1965. When I got off the lease I was paying $500.00 p/year.

What I'm saying is those days are pretty well gone. You'd be very, very , fortunate to have those conditions today. I'm sorry but getting started on a new lease is a pain in the rear, trying to get everything set up. Yeah, sometimes its kinda fun but I don't look at it like fun anymore at 66, its work!!

Heres what I'm thinkin'! I've got a little bit of property and I'm about to embark on a "nature" blind. Sompm about 10-12 feet off the ground, nice set of stairs leading up to a "room". Maybe a heater for those cold days and a 1,000lb All Seasons feeder down in the bottom of some draw where I can look at a big boy. Don't care anything about shooting him, just look and remember when I pulled the trigger and the work began!! Have myself a cup of coffee and maybe take a short nap! Might be better if it was raining or snowing!!!

Looks like a very nice property/operation. I've saved the website and will consider for next year.

Know what you mean. I'm only 41 but I'm not nearly as mad at em as I used to be! LOL Although, I'm still plenty mad at the hogs!

I enjoy just sitting and watching them myself though if the right one comes along, I'll glady break out my knife and get it dirty!

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!
