My wife and I are taking a trip down to Llano next weekend. Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions on places to eat or things to see or do. I'm sure we will eat at Coopers BBQ and go see Enchanted Rock. Any other ideas would be appreciated.

The city park just outside of town is a nice walk by the river. A couple of good shops, but if your making the trip to enchanted rock. Visit fredericksburg, alot more pricey but more shops to browse and theres a nice winery.

Yeah we may make our way to Fredricksburg. Thanks for the input. I hunted down by Llano outside of Valley Springs for years and I haven't been back since we lost the lease. I was going to drive by and see the old place while we are down there.

Stonewalls on the square for burgers, there is a new mesquite fired pizza place called Tommy's just before you cross the bridge over the river or Rositas in the railyard for Mexican. Folks live there so I spend quite a bit of time in town.

Cooper's thick chop (pork chop) is very good along with their sausage and ribeye (served after 5:00 on Friday & Sat. I believe). If not Q'd out, Inman's Country Kitchen also has good brisket and sausage (world famous Inman's turkey sausage) and homemade breads usually without the long lines that Coopers frequently has with all the (want to be) bikers and Austin yuppies.
about 7-8 miles east of Llano on the south (Llano river) side is normally a nesting pair of Bald Eagles that are frequently out flying/fishing the Llano river. Then can venture to Lake Buchanan, hook a right on FM1431 towards Kingsland, just as you get into Kingsland there is flashing light with a FM that only heads to the right ... about 2 miles is the Llano Slab (400-500 yard long low water crossing), hung out there every Sunday afternoon as a kid playing in the multiple streams that make up the river.
Longhorn Cavern isn't far from Kingsland. Bluebonnet Cafe in Marble Falls for their world famous homemade pies (their coconut cream with calf slobbers is my favorite). On down 281 about 20 or so miles is Johnson City (childhood home of LBJ) and to the west on 290 is LBJ State (or National???) Park and Lady Bird Wildflower Center. Lots of wineries in that area too.

Try Trois Estate, across the road from Enchanted Rock. The world's largest cap gun collection! You can eat dinner there also (unsure of hours), it's a pretty cool place.

My first and last visit to Cooper's. WAY over-priced, and the seating sucks. I don't want to set next to some yahoo that I don't know and don't want to know.

There is a nice little burger place before you cross the bridge on 71; do not remember the name. Locals eat there while tourists go to Coopers. It is on the east side.

actually, if you want some really good brisket, make the 30 mile drive to Burnet and try out Post Mountain BBQ on South Main (west side of main, in first block south of the square) ... Great hand made burgers at Bill's Burgers, Wings and things on north side of hwy 29 2 blocks west of hwy 281, right at the east end of Hamilton Creek bridge.

Well we had Coopers for lunch today and it was awesome. The pinto beans were some of the best beans I have ever had. I had beef ribs and jalapeņo sausage and my wife got turkey. It was pretty darn good. Then we spent the afternoon at Enchanted Rock. We climbed to the summit and it has beautiful views all around. Not sure what we are going to do tomorrow.

FYI the Coopers in Junction is NOTRELATED to the real Coopers. However, the only time I ate at the one in Junction I thought it was pretty good. I hit the drive thu, ordered a sandwich and hit the road. Thy charged me what I thought was a lot for a sandwich, but when I peeled the foil back I found two pieces of Texas toast with at least 10-12 oz of sliced brisket in it.
And whose BBQ isn't obscenely priced these days? Meat prices are through the roof.

I didn't think the prices at Coopers were too bad. We got the beef ribs, turkey, sausage, potato salad, jalapeņo bacon Mac and cheese, and two drinks for $30.

I like the Cooper pork chops. When I work there I may buy a couple and I have dinner for two or three days. Their beans are good. I think they are a bit over priced but like someone above said most good places prbly are. I have lunch at the Burger Bar most days I am there and thanks to Wilhunt for reminding me of the name.

Coopers keeps a courtesy car at the airport for those of us who fly small planes and need a lunch stop on the way to Houston from AZ. We check it out with the fuel guy at the airport. Maybe I should pull into Inmans with it some day :-)

Around LLano is one of the few places where gold occurs in Texas (Presidio being the main one). If it interests you, you can do some panning. Check youtube.
