all I got, is WOW
the one gets hit and rides the rest of the way out
that's a problem a lot of folks wish they had
sad thing is come LST, they may be gone
nice video
Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting.......holy kaka.....What a Ride!

They were probably sitting on a roost, they all moved out before LST and got skunked.

Looks like they were driving through a large roost.
Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden. Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.

Wow! I would've just parked the vehicle and waited for legal light then step out.
A little over 20 years ago a buddy and I were hunting at my family's place. Morning hunt, we waded into a little pot hole about waist deep. Shortly after shooting light, not much happening when it suddenly turned on a lot like that video. What seemed like a couple hundred birds, mostly mallards and woodies, decided they all wanted to land on that hole. They were swarming us so close it made it tough to get a gun up. We would have been better off using the guns like bats or clubs. One big greenhead was so determined to land that his feet thwacked my buddy in the back of the head and knocked his cap off. That was back in the three bird limit days and it only took a few minutes to fill up.

Perhaps the video title should have been, “Waterfowling at the Alfred Hitchcock National Wildlife Refuge” or “What Captain Sully saw moments before landing in the Hudson.”
Humor aside, in an attempt to mentor and elevate the knowledge of the novice waterfowlers in the tribe, what this video shows is evidence that waterfowl feed voraciously on nights approaching a full moon.
As New Year dawned this year the lunar cycle was approaching a full moon phase. At the spot where this video was shot, the moon was 92 percent illuminated on January 2 and 97 percent illuminated on January 3. More importantly the moon wasn’t rising but had just set at 4:44 am on January 2 and 5:38 am on January 3. Astronomical twilight began shortly thereafter at 5:44 am. Overnight temperature was above freezing in this location so the water was open whether the pumps were on or not. In other words, it was perfect conditions for waterfowl that would normally roost at one of the four Mississippi Flyway refuges that surround this field to instead feed all night under nearly full moon conditions in the flooded fields. Also, because moon set nearly coincided with astronomical twilight, it was perfect conditions for the waterfowl to stay put and not fly back to the roost. If the moon had set much earlier in the overnight hours, they likely would have flown back to the roost to avoid the dangers of predators common in fields under completely dark conditions. My favorite Central Flyway flooded crop spot is also located adjacent to a refuge that holds waterfowl by the tens of thousands. When we approach the flooded field in similar conditions we often launch the dog to shoo a couple of thousand ducks off the flooded crops that are packed in tight like sardines so we can set up. Why send the dog and not just hunker down and start shooting at LST? For one thing we have individual missile silo type pit blinds that are naturally toasty warm. They provide a cozy spot to admire the Milky Way before sunrise. More importantly we never shoot at LST because we wait for good light to come up so we can target trophy drakes. If you’re a proud member of the hen killing tribe that pulls the trigger at LST chasing a limit, you’re likely not hunting the X. When you hunt the X the sky is filled with waterfowl flights heading your way all day long… BTW, it’s not all peaches and cream up here in the northern latitudes. It’s been pretty darn cold when we step out of the lodge to get more firewood but we’re pumping warm ground water on the flooded corn and still holding tens of thousands of waterfowl. Right before we head south and come home, we promise to turn the pumps off when the sun sets January 25 so expect good bird watching in Texas beginning on January 26.
