 Hair slipping on mounts

I have two WT shoulder mounts and the hair on the back above the shoulders has started slipping after 3-5 years. They haven't been wet and haven't been cleaned with anything other than a dry towel or Swiffer duster-no chemicals whatsoever. House (Mills County) has central heat/air (gas heat) but is not kept too hot or too cold. Did my taxidermist/tanner do a poor job or could it be something else?

Have mounts over 20 years old that there is no hair slippage, could be the answer to your question is yes.

It could be bugs. Typically if the hair is going to slip you would notice it right away or shortly after the mount is done. Considering you went that long just fine, you might want to so a very close inspection of the mount to see if any bugs are there. If so, remove them and fumigate right away.

You got bugs. Could have moths or some sort of beetle larva. You need to remove the mounts immediately and treat them, if you have any others in the room do the same regardless if the hair is falling out or not. Not necessary the taxidermist's fault, the larva will eat the base of the hair / skin which will make it fall out. It's no different then when moths eat holes in shirts.
Treat Them Immediately!

Not necessarily bugs. Hair slippage can be caused by problems in the taxidermy process. Chemical issues.

Agreed, it's most likely a moth, the larva is what eats the hair. If it was tanning you would have hair slippage real quick.

no its not slippage slipping does not happen after the hair is set its surely bugs be careful if you have brought in a eourpean mount that has been cleaned by beetles if any bugs are still in them they will get in your mounts
