Weather is a bit different in Oklahoma than where you fellas are, heck, allot different where i am than you guys.
Depends on what type of clover you have, there are many cultivars, but most are planted in the fall for the following Spring. Some like Sweet clover and White clover can be planted in Spring. Find out what kind of clover you have and Google it.
You may want to get some inoculant for the clover seed as well.

Clover grows very well at my place just west of Ardmore. It doesn't grow very well the first year, but goes full bore the next. Key is to keep it mowed at 6" if the deer don't do it for you. After it gets taller than this, it matures and is not as sweet (deer won't touch it if they have other stuff to eat).
I would plant it very early spring, around Feb 1st to Feb 15th. Do the Alfalfa/Clover mix and you will thank me later. If you have another plot in Soybeans, Lab/Lab and/or summer peas for spring/fall and then plow in early sept to plant Wheat/Oats/Turnip mix, you will keep the deer from destroying your alfalfa.

We just cleared this spot out and it's about 1/3 of an acre but this will be my first time ever to plant anything.

With only 1/3 acre, I would only buy a $15 bag of Throw N Grow and spread it out topped with a 40lb bag of 13-13-13 fertilizer ($25 total investment). If you got more than 2 deer in your area (and nothing else to eat), they will eat it down and kill it in short order. If you are anywhere near me, you will have 1,000,000 times more natural groceries than the hill country of Texas for the deer to eat....a one acre plot does better in many cases than a 10 acre plot in Hill Country or South Texas most of the time.
If you got lots of natural groceries, there is nothing wrong with 1/3 or 1/2 acre plots every 80 acres for kill plots. They are much easier to maintain with smaller equipment. I hand spray, fertilize, seed and mow many of my plots.

I hand spray, fertilize, seed and mow many of my plots. I have 50 acres to hunt but there is a lot of deer (mostly bucks... At least 9 on camera vs 3 does) But we back up to core land. We pull most of the deer off core but I want to get the deer to stay on our property.

13-13-13 is a good all around fertilizer if you are not going to get the soil tested.

Soil test are cheap and could save you the difference in just fertilizer cost, but what Mr T said. it is a general recommendation.

For Oklahoma the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service. http://soiltesting.okstate.edu/ ( look on the bar on the left) Texas, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service Soil, Water and Forage Testing Laboratory http://soiltesting.tamu.edu/ (Links on bottom of page) There are other private Labs, but these are to easy and reasonably cheap. Both have instructions on how to take your sample and send it in, but if you have questions, post and someone here will try and help you out. As mentioned earlier in the thread, see if you can get a visit from your AG Agent, they are sharp and can make specific recommendations for your land and they are FREE!

With out giving you the smart [censored] answer, of shoot them, no there is no way to keep them out other than fenceing using hog panels which would be to expensive.
