......They internet scout and see a lake named and thats the spot. It is more than evident by the amount of high shooting, really bad calling, setting up on top of another group, walking or boating in at shooting time and general lack of effort I see on a weekly basis on the DFW area lakes. Although some of this will always be around I hope the next outdoor fad comes around soon and these goof balls move on to it.
I have no problem with new comers, but please learn to duck hunt. This is a tradition rich sport and the resource deserves the respect a true duck hunter has for it. I have tried to teach several guys and all they want to do is look the part and go to the most convient spot they can. I couldn't agree more. That's the difference between a duck shooter, and a duck hunter.

While I 100% agree with the reason I wouldn't give my location away I think plenty of us here on this site cast stones in glass houses.
Some are fortunate to be taught the proper ways from experienced fathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers, or friends. Many have not had that luxury. We automatically assume everyone should know better but unfortunately they don't. Instead of taking the opportunity to teach the history and etiquette we berate and chastise them hoping they don't screw up our spot.
I choose to believe the good in people, especially hunters in general, and assume most of these guys have never been taught properly. Choose to teach and not make a clown of yourself on the internet. But then again plenty hardcore hunters only want a picture!

There is no secret spots on any lake because no matter how many spots you find with no boot tracks, shell hulls, or dog paws walk another 30-40 yards and you will find some.....
Key to a "secret spot" is to get there first and pray no one sets up 50yds away.....

I think today's "sportsman" ...at least the one's everybody is referring to just don't have it. Its the pepsi generation. I came to duck hunting from bowhunting. I generally assumed 1/4 mile would be a min distance to stay away from somebody. Then I heard/read where 50 to 100 yards is common with the pepsi generation. That just blows my mind.

I do not hunt public and there are not many duck hunters around here anyway. I had a guy this morning ask me "where I have been shooting all those ducks" and "I didn't even know anyone hunted ducks around here". That's not the first time I've had that happen this year.
My point is even though I don't hunt public land for ducks, general hunting etiquette and general curtesy would cause me to not do a lot of what y'all are saying goes on these public lakes around the metromess.
I learned how to act and treat people not from growing up in a duck blind. I have learned how to duck hunt by a lot of trial and error, friends with more experience and the internet.
It also helps to have some common sense.

You can put me down in the unfortunate category, pretty much learned everything on my own. And there is probably not a better place to learn etiquette than here on the forum, as well as everything else you need to know about duck hunting.

Good for you Jimmy Peppers. Get out there and cut some ducks. Raybob is a big lake, not like you named a secret stock tank!

Name a lake and you won't hear a lot from me. Ask a question about a lake or spot and might just tell you a false statement just for shizzles. I giggled.

I will have to apologize to him profusely. Let us know how that works out. And when you tell him that you posted about his hot lake he scouted on the most popular texas waterfowl forum on the net with over 700 views in less than 24 hrs, have your camera ready and snap a picture of his facial expression, I would love to see it. Oh, and my advice, wait till after the hunt to tell him. Just playing with you, seriously, I would not tell him, you will just piss him off, and it will not help anything.

If I were you, I'd skip Ray Bob and go hunt Ray Hubbard. A lot more birds and ALOT less people.

That is a pretty good spot. My boat leaked like a colander so I didn't go. I spent all Saturday patching holes.
