I have a Tikka T3 in a .270 caliber. I have a Viper PST 6-24X50 with a 30 mm tube coming for the Rifle. I've already been told the rings that came with the gun will not fit the scope. I'm not familiar with scope ring brands, what's good and what's not. What do you recommend?

Vortex matched machined rings are good rings.
My favorite (look aside) are Burris signature zee rings with the inserts. No lapping needed and you don't need an offset rail because the inserts can do it.
Both of those you would need some sort of rail or Weaver base.

Seekins is awesome for the money. Badger is excellent but more expensive.

Since you have a Tikka T3, the rings will mount directly to the top of the action. Get a set of sturdy rings that mount directly to the top of the action. This will eliminate the need for a base, which is one less link in the chain to improve the scope mount. Figure out your ring height, and get a set of 30mm rings to fit your scope.

With the Rings attaching to the action, is durability of the rings going to be a factor? What I'm asking is if prolonged use will deteriorate the rings, and affect my scope. I'm dropping more on the scope than I did the gun, so I want to make sure nothing happens to the scope. I'm more than happy to invest in a great pair of rings, I just want to make sure the rings I get will ensure nothing happens to my scope.
Thanks for any insight, or recommendations!

I like the Burris Signature Zee rings with the various inserts. No lapping required and the inserts make it really easy to get the scope lined up without having to use all the travel in the scope.
Thanks, Rich

Thanks for any insight, or recommendations! With the rings attached directly to the action, it makes the set up more durable. You eliminate the need of a base. Your high end actions have a rail built into the action like the Tikka, and your scope rings mount directly onto the action. This makes for an ideal set up. Just get a set of rings that mount directly to the action itself. The factory Tikka rings are only ok, and they will work. But I like a better set.

I am amazed at how many people have no idea about Talley Rings..... I have them on ALL of my custom builds and factory rifles.... Strength of the product is outstanding and they take a beating.

I won a set of Talley rings/bases off a prize table once, and used them. They make very good rings and bases.
