Since season ended the 16th of November here in Nacogdoches county it got me to thinking what others do in the waiting season. Just wondering, I have been shooting a few arrows here and there and even went hog hunting a few times. Fish, golf, spend time with family????

I like to scout for new spots in January and February because I think the deer are still following similar patterns to what, where and how they are behaving during the season. If I find a new spot I like, I'll set up a new blind and feeder there and make the area huntable. I try to do any brush clearing for shooting lanes, etc. before it gets too hot. I make sure to keep my feeders running to hold deer in my area. I check trail cams to track which bucks made it through the season and winter and then follow antler growth. I'll hunt hogs, varmints and spring turkeys. I fish more, too. I shoot my bow every once in a while. Hopefully, I eat lots of venison and make room in the freezer for next year's game.

But, mainly I dream about how awesome the coming season will be and all the big bucks I'll have to choose between. up

deer season is year round for us. not literally...but that's sort of how we look at it. every month of the year is occupied with either actually hunting or preparing to hunt again. there's a couple lifetime's worth of things to work on down at the ranch. and if we dont' feel like working then there's a couple lifetime's worth of hogs to shoot too.

I always enjoy getting even with the squirrels that wouldn't stop chattering and making noise when I was listening for deer.
