Does anyone know if it illegal to own a bobcat as a pet? If not any idea were to buy one or a technic to trap a baby one so you can tame it as it grows up.

No you can not have a bob cat as a pet or any other wild animal

it may not be legal but they do make good pets...so I have been told

A fried of mine has one in OK where her dad has a special permit/license to own it.

you can have them with a permit, just search the web, they ate about $600-$1000 and are ready around march normally. you want to get them at about 2-3 days old and bottle feed them. this goes to wild caught or captive bred.

If one were per sea interested in obtaining a kitten do ya'll know where one could be had?

I knew a guy on OK that used to breed them and sell them and he never said anything about permits. I think that only applies to animals caught wild, which you would be crazy to catch a live cat and try to domesticate it. The ones he had were a few generations domestic.

He did say they were not very good with small children and you should never own one if you have small children.

What if my kids are quick? Also does it matter if my wife is wanting to have more kids

They have some interesting qualities according to that .pdf file I posted. They love water, unlike your domestic cat. Also, they love to travel in cars! My domestic cats aren't too keen about being in the car.

Is it a good idea to have a wild animal for a pet? No! Is it aginst the law, I don't know for sure.

I have had my share of so called pets that were wild animals, when I was a kid growing up.

I had a baby javelina that was given to me that was 1 day old. It was given to me by the Game Wardens and Biologists of the Texas Parks & Wildlife Dept., that were in charge of the wildlife show that used to go all over the state in the early 60's. One of the sows had a litter and they didn't want them. My father was a Warden and was called in to help out and answer questions from the public and spectators when shows were near the countys that he worked.

I raised this female javlina until it was grown. She would run and play and hang with the cowdogs on our ranch. She had a burrow under a propane tank near the house.

We had a colored lady that worked for my mother cleaning house and cooking, and most of the time she would bring her son with her to play outside. She went outside to feed the cowdogs and javelina. The little boy was about 4 at the time and he started playing with dogs and javelina while they were trying to eat. He was told not to do this many times.

The javelina attacked him and ripped him up really bad, to the tune of 80 some odd stitches on his legs. Then about a week later his mother was attacked while taking some things my mother had given her to her car in front of our home. She had to be taken to the hospital to have her legs and ankles sewn up also. She was able to get away before she got cut up too bad. She recieved less stitches. We had to pay for their doctor bills which wasn't cheap, even way back then!

After 2 attacks in such a short period of time, My father shot the javelina in the chest, cut it's head off and packed it in ice and took it to Austin to have it checked for rabies. The test came back negitave.

Had this happened in todays times I can almost guarentee you that we would have been sued.

I know this story has nothing to do with a Bobcat. I merely posted it to show what can happen with a wild animal that is made into a pet.

A friend of mine had a raccoon for a pet. It was the coolest pet. The thing thought it was a cat. it would use the litter box and eat cat food. It had the softest feet.

I had a boar coon for a pet, got him before his eyes were open. He was a lot of fun, till he got grown. Man that thing bit me bad a couple of times, so I finally turned him loose. He would hang around the house in a Post Oak tree wanting to be fed. Then one day he was gone, never saw him again.

Dont think its a good idea to just take out from out in the wild, if you are dead set on getting one & paying all the permits & such, get one from a breeder. Dont go trapping or disturbing a whole litter. IF...IF you were to find 1 all by itself & for sure mom was not around, then maybe take it....maybe.
