I hunted close to where you are talking about. We had Pease River there. There were deer and some nice ones and depending on the pasture good population of mule deer. It was beautiful property I just couldn't get up there enough to hunt it with my kids being as active as they are. The drive was more than I bargained for also the cost of fuel made the lease not nearly as cheap as the initial lease fee.

I had a lease in that area for a number of years, and wish I still did. 10 miles south plus water means it will probably have Pease River frontage, which is exactly what you want down there. Most of the nice whitetails will be in the river bottoms, and the bucks have good genetics in that area. Like everywhere else in Texas, you just got to let them grow up and reach their potential. In the cedar breaks both north and south of the river, you'll find some mulies, but buck quality on the mulies is hit and miss.

Along the river bottom the turkey and hog population is very strong.

There are a couple of high fence ranches in that area now. Might want to ensure your place hasn't been high fenced on a couple of sides as it could limit deer movement. If there happens to be another spot open, please let me know.

When I used to hunt that area, we tried to keep it one hunter to 1k acres. A lot of "big" country up there and the deer tend to travel a lot. Some very good deer. Hogs and turkey depend on your location, but they are there. We had mule deer and whitetail on our place. Some years good, some not so good. Tough area to bow hunt, but rifle hunting the rut can be very productive. Feeders worked ok, but we rarely had them come regular to them.

I miss hunting the panhandle. Big bodied deer and most areas offer a good chance at a high caliber deer.

That doesn't compute bud. If you go south on 83 out of Childress you cross the north fork of the Pease River around mile 12, and then the south fork of the Pease around mile 17. If this place is really 15 miles from river frontage, then be careful because it won't have near the deer density of a lease near the river.

Pretty much my experience. I hunted over in Hall county for 3 years. It can be pretty tough hunting at times. The deer population isn't as good as some areas but I think the overall quality of deer is better. For that area your chance for seeing pigs and turkey are gonna be pretty high. And I know there are parts of Childress that have mule deer.

I hunt S/W of Childress, pretty much what every one has said. We are 50/50 Wt and mule deer. There are some good deer, just not in great numbers. A whole lot of hogs, turkeys will depend on the place.

I've been hunting 7 years now in Cee Vee Tx , which is south of childress .
I love that area around the river south on 83 before I turn on 1440 .
Had much luck the week of thanksgiving few mule deer taken and white tail was chasing pretty hard , would jump at a chance if I were you .
Plus I have seen more quail this year than ever ! Can't wait to get the dogs out and let them run
Chris
