I have been following this from the beginning. Congrats on an awesome buck. As hunters we owe it to the animal to exhaust all means in recovery. You did not give up. That should be inspiring to us all. I went through the same thing last year myself except i could not get a tracker to bring their dogs to help look for him. He was a huge deer. All the trackers were hours away. I did make a poor shot and never recovered the deer. However, i continued to hunt each and every day after that. Three days after shooting the deer i saw him about one hundred yards from where i shot him days before. He looked fine. He was moving a lot faster across the high line ROW that day. I found only specks of blood and some white hair at the spot he was shot. That pretty much told me i hit him way to low. I hope you learned a lot from this experience. I know i did just from following the story. I think the main thing was you didn't give him enough time to expire before trying to recover him. I am an avid bowhunter myself and bad shot placement is common with most bowhunters. It's going to happen to everyone sooner or later. Next time let him lay overnight if you are unsure of your shot. It will be less stressful in the long run. Anyway, awesome story and a great buck.
