Have been hunting family land for 5 years now, and every year we've been on the place we usually see does every single hunt and occasionally saw a buck, and rarely saw mature bucks. This year I have seen one doe in person since bow season, I see young bucks every hunt, and I have only seen one doe on camera. Has anybody experienced this in east Texas this year? Does anybody know why? It just seems odd that the does would disappear.

I'm out west but last year, I did not see a doe for the first 2-3 weeks of rifle season. All my mature bucks were gone and all I saw was 1.5-2.5 year old bucks.
Then December hit and the does were back. In droves, but never saw any mature bucks last year in the flesh.

I am hunting some family property north east of Clarksville. I see at least 6 doe a sitting and up to 13. It is only 175 acres. I didnt have any bucks on camera for months. They started showing up and I have counted 8 different young bucks and 3 mature ones between cameras and me hunting.

Also I wanted to note this my first year hunting this property. No one has hunted it for 10 years. Where abouts are you in the county?

I hunt over in far east Texas, in the Sabine National Forest/north end. Saw several bucks and several does on opener, had a 3yr. old 8 point skirt me twice, so I came back on Wed. the 12th. and he came back in pushing two mature does. Till I dropped him. I had the same feeling on opening weekend. Everything seemed to be slow and delayed, almost felt like the end of Sept. Keep on doggin' em'.

We are far north by the river, and are also on about 200 acres. We have only taken one mature buck and a few spikes (2.5+), and about 5 does in the last 5 seasons. 2 years ago we saw a lot of mature deer, this year, not so many. Hoping some does or mature bucks show up for thanksgiving. It just seemed strange to me that the does have just disappeared since I was seeing 5-10 person hunt last season.

Only my second year In Red river county but the patterns seem the same as last year. We have young bucks and doe moving in the daylight now with mature buck on the cameras at night. Our area has a lot of hunting pressure. I'm hoping the crowds will pull out after thanksgiving weekend. Last year nothing really happened till December.

My guess is they are hitting the acorns & pecans and will return when they're gone. This is a bumper crop year for both.

Well that is good news. I'm hoping the young bucks run off during that time as well. I just need the doe to show up during thanksgiving for doe days.

Yea this is my first season in red river county. I have always hunted out west by New Castle. I heard 22 shots from surrounding properties on the morning after opening day. I heard 7 shots Saturday evening. I dont know what all they are shooting unless they have lamps permits. Sure there are pigs around but not as many as I had further west.

I'm hunting a place in Bowie County for the first time. I go from seeing 5-6 does/small bucks to nothing the next. I have a couple mature deer on camera but all at nite.
