 Question about Ruger .22 single six

I inherited a Ruger single six , all it says on the gun is .22 cal. My question is can a shoot .22 mag out of it? They fit in the cylinder fine.

I think the .22 mag will have an unfluted cylinder and the .22LR has a fluted cylinder. I would say it should be fine if they go in the chambers.

If I'm not mistaken, the .22 Mag cylinder also will have ".22 Mag" stamped right on it.

You are correct it should and may have at one time but it's an older pistol with lots of wear.

The .22 WMR uses a larger case than the more popular .22 Long Rifle, both in diameter and length. The .22 WMR case is a lengthened version of the older .22 WRF. The .22 WMR's case is thicker than that of the .22 LR, allowing higher pressures. The combination of more powder and higher pressures gives velocities over 2,000 feet per second (610 m/s) from a rifle using a 30-grain (1.9 g) bullet, and 1,500 feet per second (460 m/s) from a handgun. A .22 WMR round will not fit into the chamber of a .22 LR firearm, but it is possible,though unsafe, to chamber .22 LR rounds in a .22 WMR firearm. Doing so can result in injury from a leaking undersized case.

I have a Super Single Six and both cylinders. Ammo is not interchangeable between them.

what hunt dog said is accurate. they sell a super single six that comes with both cylenders. ammo is not interchangeable though in just one cylinder....and the magnum cylinder is clearly marked as such.

Correction/Update:
I have a New Model Single Six with both cylinders. Manufactured 1978-1979. My magnum cylinder is clearly marked .22 WIN MAGNUM CAL
When I was a kid a friend's Dad had a Super Singlr Six and I always wanted one. So when I bought mine used at a gun show (I still have it in the original box with the original red felt pouch for the spare cylinder)I think my brain tricked me into thinking it was a Super.

I have both cylinders. The mag cylinder is not fluted and is labeled 22 Magnum.

I always try to load a 22 mag to verify it is the mag cylinder. The mag round will not fit in LR cylinder

I have a Super Single Six circa 1974-76 and both cylinders are fluted. My 22 LR cylinder is countersunk(the cartridges sit below rim for lack of the correct term) and the 22 magnum cylinder is flat and cartridges sit flush with the surface of the cylinder. I don't recall the caliber being marked on the cylinder but never looked. 22 magnum won't fit in 22 LR but 22 LR will fit and fire from the magnum cylinder. Very inaccurate and not recommended!

Older Single 6 here, but I'm to lazy to dig it out of the safe. Know the 22WMR cylinder is marked, but cannot remember if the .22LR is.

Old Models have both cylinders fluted and both unmarked but if you cannot tell the difference from 10' away you should not be handling a firearm. The rear face is way different. The LR cylinder has a grove around the chambers to clear the firing pin. The WMR cylinder has recessed chambers and stepped chambers as the WMR head spaces off the the case mouth, the LR off the rim. They're also different diameters....at least enough that you can't stuff a 22 WMR round into a LR cylinder far enough for the cylinder to rotate.   Thanks for the question, gave me an excuse to get the Old (girl) Model out for some handling. LR pictured on the left, WMR on the right.

The way I read your post, you're asking if you can shoot 22lr and 22 wmr out of the same cylinder. If that's your question, the answer is no, for the reasons stated above. You really should use a 22 wmr cylinder that can handle the higher pressure . Hope this helps.
