I know they carry a nice price tag. But how is the overall quality and long term durability of them? They feel good when holding one at the gunshop. Just curious as how they hold up to lots of plinking and how they run when a little dirty.

They do feel and look good IMO. But the quality for the price doesn't jive these days. Older ones when they were hand fitted and all were and are great guns. But today's kimbers are overpriced. Mine never liked to run dirty either. And a couple had feeding issues with jhps.

Kimbers are pretty but I have a buddy that has had some issues with his. I've also heard they have questionable customer service. If you want a nice 1911 I'd go Springfield or Colt. I have a 1911 Loaded and I love it.

Me too. That and one of the new Para Experts (NOT the G.I. Expert.) They've been issue free and accurate since day one.

I won't buy another kimber, they are not what they used to be. For the money so spend on them you can save some a buy a Springfield and have a better gun or spend a little more and get a Dan Wesson and get an awesome gun. The fit and finish on the kimbers are not all that great the frame to slide has plenty of slop in it, Where my Springfield has considerably less and the Dan Wesson has none. That is what I would do with my money.

Kimber is way overpriced. You can get a much better shooting 1911 for cheaper. Ruger SR1911 is one to look at, titanium firing pin, barrel and bushing made from same piece of steel (most 1911s they just pull parts from a bin so they don't always have the best fit). Ruger or Springfield make the best 1911 for the money right now. Me personally Kimber will never get another dime from me.

I have a custom II that I carry daily in the winter. Over 2k rounds and zero issues. Only thing I changed was adding night sights. Great 1911 for the money. Granted I have bought the ruger sr since then and have my eyes on a TRP as well as a colt detective. They're all great 1911s and have their perks. The good thing is they're the best pistol platform ever made

carry a custom 2 also and have for 5 years only issues i have had were letting it get to dirty and limp wristing it a couple time.
killed bunches of javies and a couple eatin pig with it, half [censored] intend to take a yote with it this winter.
boss bought a raptor this summer and it is a sweet rig i only put a couple mags thru it at the range but liked it.

I've read about more problems with kimber 1911's online than I've ever heard about from kimber owners in person. Personally, if there was one I liked that much I would have no problem forking the dough over. I do think there are better options for not much more coin. I prefer colt 1911's to most other production 1911's . You need to get behind a few and shoot them and come up with your own conclusion.

I also have custom 2s , 4 to be exact. Over 25,000 round's between my personal carry piece, service weapon and two customized competition pieces. Only one problem with feeding and when I contacted customer service they replaced the entire gun at no charge within a week.

I've run into alot of people who swear the Kimber is worthless and after a little conversation most either never owned one or heavily abused the one they had. The few that had legitimate problems with the Kimber all had issues between 2005-2007. I don't know what happened at Kimber in that time but it seems to have been fixed.

I think Kimber is simply one among many these days. It's a fine gun and will serve you will, but it is no longer a top tier gun. If you like it, buy it. But, there are other fantastic options at the same price point.

FWIW, by wife carries / shoots a Kimber Ultra CDP II in 9mm. Great gun, zero problems. I won't buy a Kimber for myself.

Yep. It's gotten blown out of proportion. I have one from the early 2000s and it's never missed a lick and shoots like butter. They did switch to some cheaper MIM parts in the mid 2000s and that's when the problems hit; they also ramped production and the quality drop off did take them out of the top tier, IMO. But I wouldn't hesitate to look at one if I were shopping these days and if it passed muster I'd buy it.
