Depends on which compartment you hunt in. We were in 5b I think it was for youth weekend. It was the hardest woods walking I've ever done. Ice storm last year put a lot of tree material on the ground.
Good luck!

The WMA is a large area but the state has a check in station with map etc. normally hanging on the wall. It is also normally manned by someone familiar with the area. Just remember Terry's, he has a nice processing business, I don't know if he will just store it for you, sometimes space is tight especially around Thanksgiving, doe days. Who ever is at the station should be able to direct you. Might do a search, could be on the map. Ice storm did a lot of damage to the forest and will be years before things get back to half way normal. Be careful around the trees, look up and check, winds are still blowing limbs out, and I do mean LIMBS.. Doesn't hurt to be safe. Friend texted me while hunting this morning inside a metal "hut" , all was quiet, deer out in field feeding when a limb crashed down on top of his hide, believes he might need wet wipes!!! It is a good area, managed by the state, deer numbers are up, leaves are turning, things should be good for your hunt. Good luck.

WOW worst public hunt EVER! Pat Mayes is a nice place over all but? I was lucky enuff to get first draw on the hunt and drew what I was told was a premium location! BOY WAS I WRONG! I grabbed my back pack and headed out at 12noon and spent the next 4 hours scouting my location, I found plenty of deer sign & an active scrape line, I backed off the scrape line in a clearing into the timber line and set up my 30ft ladder stand. I also went to the north side of the clearing and set up my ground blind. The wind was to be out of the south for the next 3 days so I had two options. The rain held off and I hunted my ladder stand for all 3 days. WHAT A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME! I could see well over 150 yards in all directions from my ladder stand and I didnt see so much as a damn squirrel in 72 hours! I was told on Monday after my hunt that there had only bee 5 deer total out of 60 hunters killed this season. If I had known that Prior to my hunt weekend I would have stayed HOME!

Hate to hear that. It has been slow at my place there this year also. I did see a huge buck crossing the road (almost hit him) about a 1/4 mile from the camp site/ check in station last Saturday about 11:30 am on my way back from Terry's.
