Took my son out for his first hunt this past weekend. We got into the blind nice and early on Saturday. Had several does come in and I said he could try to take one of them. He took aim, fired and missed. Well, that happens. We then went out and practiced for a little bit Saturday afternoon. He said he was more comfortable and ready to try again. Sat in the blind again Saturday evening, and saw only a little bit of activity. I told him to hold off. So we just sat and watched. It was a good time in fact. I think he learned a few things. Got back after it Sunday morning and just after 7, a lone buck came in. I could see he was anxious, but told him to hold off for a little while, lets see what else shows up. Well, after 30 minutes of watching this guy by himself, I gave him the green light. He probably spent 4-5 minutes sighting him up and waiting for a clean shot. I thought he might be having second thoughts. When he finally pulled the trigger, I was so surprised. It was good shot straight through the lungs and the deer curled up next to a cactus about 10 yards from where he was standing. I just wish he would have helped me clean the darn thing. Got a little sick when I started showing him the guts. I know it's not the biggest, but it was his first and he was as happy as could be.

Great way to get him back in the saddle after the 1st miss and great persistence on his part, sounds like a great learning weekend and fun time with the old man
