First year on a lease west of archer city. Have been feeding all summer and up until a few weeks ago had pretty decent a activity. Went last wknd bowhunting and my area was a ghost town. The wheat on the place is up and so that might be the reason but there are no oaks for miles from what I can tell. Some of the guys on the lease have told me the colder it gets the better the hunting. My question is this normal for this area will I see more deer around the rut? (Later in the season)

Yes, similar to what I've annually seen in SW Young county. Good deer activity Summer until about mid-Oct., then a break of a couple of weeks and new, larger bucks appearing early Nov.-Thanksgiving. After that, goes kind of light again for deer activity but could be due to many getting harvested in November too. Anyhow, I'd say to hunt heavily from now through Thanksgiving and try to get it done..

I agree with DQ. I hunt a small place west of AC too. Stay with it. I have noticed a couple of new scrapes the past couple of weeks. I seem to see another lull right before Christmas and then it can be good action the last two weeks of the season. Gotta love Mesquite tree hunting.

Thanks for the info! That's kinda what I figured but just figured id ask. Will def be hunting hard till thanksgiving. Rafter h it's definitely mesquite country, that's all there is. It's alote diffrent hunting than the hill country that's for sure!

I'm not far from you and I have experience the opposite. Before last week I had just one small buck and few does. Then last weeks pics have got me really excited. Not sure if it was the Orange Crush I put out or it was just my turn. Hoping they stick around for a while.

My hog activity droped way off, but Deer activity has skyrocketed.
