Saturday morning is the 1st of November, right? I thought the 2nd was the general season opener...
Can't use a gun in archery season.

Apparently, the Texas Deer Hunting Guide App is wrong, as it lists the general opener as the 2nd. I checked and gun season opens Saturday.

I will have my go-to gun. Remington model 700 .243 shooting Winchester ballistic silvertip 95 grain (been that combination for years and years). I will have my AR 15 for my open sight gun for hogs. I am going to take my new(ish) Winchester featherweight .308 shooting Barnes Vortex 168 grain. Taking it just because I like to have options and I still haven't spilled any blood with it. If a boar comes out I will utilize it then...or if I decide to take a red deer. And of course my Kimber .45 that is always on my hip when I am at the ranch...well, it's always on my hip when I am in Texas, just a matter of if it can be seen or not haha!
Bottom line is if there is a zombie apocalypse opening weekend, they don't want to start any chit with me!!!

although I have a number of rifles in my vault, I will be carrying my Remington 700 Classic 7mm Remington mag. I know it's overkill for central Texas whitetail, but oh well.

Browning White Gold Medallion .270 Win. 130 grain Core Lokts.
Back up in the truck will either be the mid-1950's JC Higgins (FN Mauser) in .270 Win. 130 grain Sierra P.H. handloads or the Tikka .30-06 with 150 grain Sierra handloads.
May bring out the Winchester Mod. 70 Super Grade in .270 Win. with 130 grain Sierra Game King handloads a bit later in the season.

Parker Hale .270...it was my grandfather's rifle and I feel like he is with me in the stand even though he passed away in 1995. He was the one that really got me into deer hunting as a teenager...always think about our trips to Cherry Spring in the late 80's/early 90's... WOW... That has to be just about the second reference to a Parker-Hale hunting rifle I've seen/heard in 30 years. My Mom bought my Dad a Parker-Hale .30-06 for Christmas in 1972 or 1973. Then Dad bought a Leupold 3X9 for it. Dead balls on accurate gun. I shot my first turkey with it. It became my go to loaner gun for years when anybody needed a gun to hunt with. Anybody could pick it up and shoot it accurately with no adjustments needed. My friends killed more deer with it than Dad did. Dad died in 2007 and I've been in sort of a pissing match with my sister and brother-in-law over it since. But I have all the good memories with it so I guess that's a win.
