Are there any deer out this way. My friends family has 500 acres of unhunted ground that I used to help do cattle ranching on as a kid. Never looked for deer. Just wondered it they even have a population there.

Yes the deer numbers are low but there are some big bucks in the area...or ag least in the Navarro Mills thru Dawson area.

As I recall alot of ag fields in that area, at least off of 171. However, if you have creeks near you probably have some deer. Is the property near a creek/have cover? U can always put out some corn and game cam, you might be surprised! I know of a really nice buck from around the Penelope area which you would think doesn't have any deer.

Yah there are multiple creeks that run through the area as well as the ranch had about 10 livestock ponds. There is a big bit of cover visible from satellite but I can't get a feel for how big. I am going to just gamble and head out opening morning way before sunrise and put out some corn and see what I see. If nothing the whole weekend then oh well it was worth a shot. Want to setup a feeder but cannot find a affordable one on my military pay at the last minute.

There are plenty of hogs in the area and a possibly a few deer...the closer you get to Navarro Mills the more deer there are. The potential for nice bucks are there since the Corps seeded the area with good genes 40 years ago. If you need some recovery help let me know.
