 TV Signal at the Deer Lease Question?

We currently have a 27" 720P flat screen with a VCR hooked up in the Camper . We are 5 miles from Olney Tx. My question is what do I need to hookup for free local TV signals ? Is it possible ? A digital Converter box with antenna ? Thanks in advance

If it's a flat screen, it's most likely digital ready. If it has a coaxial connector on the back, all you need is some coax and a digital antenna mounted on a short pole that is held stable enough so that it doesn't fall, but loose enough so that you can turn it to point the antenna towards station antennas. Of course this assumes there are stations with 75 miles or so. Otherwise, you're going to need a larger antenna and taller pole. You can buy omindirectional antennas at Walmart at places like that that will work for stations that are much closer, but they will never match the performance of an outdoor, directional antenna. You can find good antennas on the Web for around $50 bucks or so, plus shipping. Link Now a little feedback on picking up digital TV signals. You'll find that there isn't such a thing as "snow" that you probably remember getting back in the days of analog TV. When a digital TV signal gets weak, you get what's called "pixelation" as the TV set's receiver doesn't receive all the zeros and ones that are needed to color each dot on the screen. When this happens, it just fills an entire block of dots with a single color that it can detect from the signal. And if the signal gets even weaker, it will just freeze with whatever information it received last. The good news is that so long as the signal is strong enough, you're going to get a perfect picture without any snow or those dreaded horizontal lines that old timers like me can remember back in the day.

I got something like 40 channels on my TV out near Graham in my RV. Granted RV's have cool antenna's on them. I have it sitting in my side yard right now and my TV in the house doesn't pick up as many channels as it does. Difference being the antenna. There is a website somewhere related to which direction to turn your antenna on your RV for the best reception.

Radio Shack's top of the line outdoor antenna is a good one. I have one each for our tiny guest house and my barn workshop. Get it as high in the air as you can, and it's much better if you can adjust the direction of the antenna. I adjust mine with channel lock pliers, but better options are available. Happily, I have Dish at the main house.

I picked up a 120 mile antenna from some place I found on the internet in San Angelo. They also have a 150. You are not going to actually get a signal from 120 miles but I get Austin and Belton in NW Burnet cty. Antenna has a built in rotor. You will also need a pole. I have a 16'. Not sure what you will get in Olney. Check the website that someone else mentioned. It will have all the possible channels.

I have Dish Network. Sure has been nice. Doesn't cost extra except the 6 bucks or so monthly rental fee on the receiver.

My land(Bowie) is 60 miles from Fort Worth city limits and further from Dallas stations. I bought a $100 antenna from Walmart and put it on a 15 ft pole. I get 50 channels. Of course, a lot are in Spanish, 2 are Vietnamese, a couple are shopping, etc. But I also get all of the Fort Worth/Dallas major channels and an awful lot of old movie channels. I should have done it years ago.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.

I have Dish Network. Sure has been nice. Doesn't cost extra except the 6 bucks or so monthly rental fee on the receiver. One of the reasons why I have Dish at home is because it only costs a few bucks extra to run the receiver at my lease. You can buy receivers off eBay and from Dish, with the satellite dishes being easily available as well. I have my over-the-air TV antenna just as a backup.
