I took small bull Monday, smallest bull I think I ever had in my cross-hairs. They where high and scattered. I had friends on a "paid" hunt and I have heard they did good. I saw elk on the mountain they where hunting (PL) around 300 head. Very few elk low. I saw several animals going to the trash at the processors, because they sat around camp celebrating to long instead of taking care of business, 2 where fairly nice bulls, real shame. Had a good several days fishing to, came back with 24 trout. Fishing is what I did while recovering from the 6 hr pack job, my left leg went numb, so those nerves where sure PO'd. Here he is, I should have had more help before taking him at that location, but you live with you're decisions and I got him down, he will be great eating, but a let down for you big antler hunters Grade was the worst I have ever had to quarter on, slide 20' when I took the 1st rear off .

That'll work, Western. Not a bad trip at all. I would have shot up there and helped, had I known at the time, but if it only took 6 hours, I guess you had it handled. Good thing, too, as warm as it was.

It was too warm to waste time doing anything. It would have taken you 3hrs, almost by road and I wouldn't trouble someone else hunting, it was tough enough conditions this year already. My cell died and I left mu damn charger at home, didn't get another until I made the trip to town to pick up my bull. I was hurting too much Monday evening and Tues, to break him down any more.
Spoke with a DOW friend and a couple folks I know that live there,... Warm weather, great mountain rye and mountain clover growth, no need for the Deer or elk to travel much. Very few where on the normal routine, saw some movement yesterday though (deer). I saw Elk every day, but not all in areas I could hunt, but they where hung up around 7-9k

BOBO, you'll love this. Met a fella Texan while fishing at the lake, he had drawn a trophy deer tag for Unit 61, only took him 15 years. The day before his hunt started, he helped some fellas haul out a bull and ended up ripping off his toe nail somehow, hunt ruined...BUT he was a fish catching fool 15 years geeees

We had a good hunt, but considering the conditions, we did real good to see what we did. I've had worse trips, for sure.

Y'all should stick to hunting corn feeders next time! I kid I kid! After the places we went, there's probably a few in the group that would agree. Shawheel and I tried to hook up on a trail that was not marked on the map right at all. I won't say what we renamed it after our experience with it. It's safe to say that they wouldn't put that on a map.

It's been marked off the list of huntable places in that area.

Did you catch those fish in Groundhog? Always thought about fishing that lake, but had no idea how to go about it, especially without a boat.

CR, I knew from my limited contact with Sneaky, that you fellas where working pretty hard. I have a few friends in this area that have horses, but they are also busy. I knew it would be a chore and made the decision since I could see how the season was playing out. If it had been cooler, I would have had other options, evan as far as where I would have been hunting, same for you guy's in that respect. I will have to find 1 or 2 trustable, (strong) hunting buddies , this time was harder than the last 5 combined, actually harder than I can ever recall of any bull I have taken.

Certain parts of me are strong, with the proper medication, but they're absolutely no help in getting an elk off the mountain!

Sad thing is CR, and this is kind of a clue to what I meant about "trustable" hunting buddies. There was a young fella, his wife and FIL waaay down below that had saw this small "herd" and saw him go down. They waited until I got to cam with the bull, then said "we should have came and helped ya, we would like some advice" He said, "you where almost to the top of that mountain". If thy had wanted to help, they could have been there in an hour and a half and I would have helped them in kind.

I plan on making this trip annually. We had a great camping spot and a good area to hunt. I'll start another thread for next year. Western, if you ever feel like joining us, the road back in to camp is pretty good. There were guys further in than we were with campers. A bunch of snow would be the only thing stopping that, I reckon. I don't think rain would even be a problem.
Service was better than expected, so I'm just a phone call away if you need help next time. Packing out bulls is pretty much my favorite thing to do.
