I am having trouble using the Primos Hot Dog howling call and i was wondering if anyone had any tips on using it or know of a better howling call to use.

That caller is pretty hard to use for me too. I have a Johnny Stewart howler that works better, but is not as loud. For some reason when I use the Randy Anderson call I mess up and it makes funny sounds. I have practiced a lot with it but just can't seem to get it right.

The best way I have found to get good a call is take it with you practice when you are driving. Not necessarily when you are actually driving but when you stop at lights and such. The more you mess around with open-reed calls the more you will be able to manipulate them to get good sounds.

Like you, I've struggled to make good howls with the Hot Dog. I've actually had my best luck with the "Li'l Dog" rig, also sold by Primos.

Its also a pretty entertaining item to cut loose on during Halloween. Usually sends all the neighbor dogs into an uproar, and causes man and child alike to whirl around wondering where that coyote is....

I'm not sure about your area, but howls never seen to work around here (cass county) & I have seen some decent callers try. I have only heard a single coyote howl 1 time in the past 3yrs while at deer camp, but I hear the pack yelping & howling all the time. we have gotten them to come in while trying to mimic the pack howl/yelp a few times though. I've only been varmit hunting for about 2yrs so my advice is probably not good... I'm also the same guy that doesn't think deer calls (grun/bleet nor rattle) work in our area either because in 17yrs of deer hunting I have never heard any of them noises in the woods around here. lol.

Im in wise county and the coyotes we are hearing are pretty far off so we need a howl to get them in.

I have had them come in to the howl. It is a lot easier to do around this time of year, and also again around sept-oct.
