Finally took the plunge and got my permit to hunt on Ft Hood since there isn't much public hunting land around me. I'd like to find someone who hunts there already and can give me some pointers or maybe I could tag along on a few hunts. I'm originally from ky so not too familiar with Texas hunting. I'm 36 yrs old, responsible, ethical, with limited hunting experience. Any info is helpful.

I've hunted yotes on Fort Hood. Called a number of them in too. However getting them into shotgun range isn't always possible. My best advice is find a game warden on patrol and stop him. They'll have the best and most current info on where the pigs are. Right now the training areas are full of deer hunters(bow season). So you'll pretty much have to try to hunt at night. Which has a whole new set of probables on Ft Hood. Basically you can't use a vehicle powered spot light or have a loaded gun in your vehicle. PM me

I went out to one of the Belton Lake WMA's and nailed some rabbit the other morning. No flea's, no rabbit fever, good eating! I'm registering my wpns on post today and should be able to get out soon. I work on Ft. Hood and I'm very familiar with the training areas by the nature of my job. Not so familiar with hunting on post, animal habitat, etc. I'm sticking with rabbit, squirrel because of the shotgun restriction (although I haven't found any squirrels). I'll let the dear hunters battle it out while I'm grilling my rabbits.
