That is, a stand that's known for being the one where the deer usually win.
Spent the afternoon with the wife walking and showed her the spot on our lease where hunters just always seem to miss their shot at a deer. The stand itself overlooks a fork in two roads where deer having been crossing for years, if not decades. I'm sure it's not so much an issue with the stand, but rather the fact that being a road crossing, you don't get a lot of time to make the shot. If you're sitting in the stand and you happen to see a deer, it isn't likely to stand there for long, if at all.
The stand has such a bad reputation that most of the guys refuse to hunt it.

Corn the road and get them to stay a little longer That often works on doe and young bucks. The older bucks just seem to know better. They act like a prison escapee trying to avoid a spotlight.

Probably for the best since you have to check width on those kinds of deer with only a side profile look. Dragging scent behind a 4wheeler going to stands like that tends to be effective.

Cant say our lease has a stand like that.........or any other lease I have been on. I can say every lease I have been on has certain people that cant shoot though and it doesn't matter which stand they are shooting from either.

I'm confused. Based on previous lectures, I thought you hunted by going out into the woods (public land was my understanding) and finding game trails, scrapes, establishing an old buck's patterns, etc.
Surprised to hear you sometimes sit a stand on a lease like the rest of us rabble....
And, no, I don't think I have heard of a stand like that. Usually a "missing" trend tends to go with a particular shooter rather than his shooting location in my experience.

The stand has such a bad reputation that most of the guys refuse to hunt it. It sounds like it may be very narrow so you might get a crew together and try to widen the edges just a little, and like someone mentioned corn the road before you hunt it. Sounds like it's pretty much been abandoned, so that could be part of the problem, and I would also make sure it's not an issue with the deer picking up the hunters scent from the blinds position, as air currents can do strange things. The deer especially does will come out and eat, and during the rut the bigger bucks will come around and you just have to be ready. In my opinion it sounds like more of a hunter problem, and to clarify that statement it's more of a hunter picking the wrong loacation for the stand. Most stands that have a bad rep are because the hunter didn't do his homework setting it up.

Thursday at 12:45 PM #33 Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

Nothing a pile of white oak acorns wouldn't fix. What is the shooting rest like on this stand?

Oh...my...*waits for the fallout*
But for real- I can't think of a lease like this on our places- I have several family members that hunt with us that "never see any shooters" when I see at least 2 every time I go out...why? because I go there more than just during the season- I work my tail off and make my stand a great place to hunt- and when I show up to hunt I get that sot and you weekenders get the places I save "just for you" and they have cams so I know there are good deer there- just open your damn eyes...and don't miss!" ok for real- off the box now.

We have a blind called the "Ghost Blind." Hunters go out there, shoot a big buck, but when they dirt check the buck it's much smaller than originally thought. Has happened a few times so we gave it the nickname "Ghost Blind" since there must be a huge ghost buck that people think they are shooting.
Yeah, don't listen to me. I'm just an idiot.
Lol. Duckbill that was funny! The dude up top has already taken lots of bone before this deer, both mule and whitetail.

Create a stand site where the feeder is at least 200 yards away and I'll bet you'll have one.

Create a stand site where the feeder is at least 200 yards away and I'll bet you'll have one. I will admit that I have stands that are 225 yards to the feeder that have given some members whose name I won't mention problems closing the deal on hog opportunities. I do believe for many hunters that distance alone could make the stand have a reputation for missing shots. I've found most Texas hunters that I've met have a history of arranging their sets @ 100 yards or less. This becomes problematic for them when they start hunting country that provides longer shooting opportunities. I think alot of it just has to do with their confidence in their gun and themselves when taking the shot.

Create a stand site where the feeder is at least 200 yards away and I'll bet you'll have one. Dan I have three feeders that exceed your 200 yard criteria. One of them is right at 300. The 300 yard set up doesn't even have a stand to use for a good solid rifle rest. I simply sit on a big rock shelf with a camera tripod set up for me to rest the rifle on. The pig in the center of my sig line was shot at that feeder and dropped in his tracks. The pig on the right side of my sig line was shot at one of the other 200+ yard feeders. Once again it was a one shot kill. Here is the 300 yard set up. That black dot with the red circle around it is the pig in my center signature pic. You can even see the camera tripod in the bottom of the pic that I use for a rest.

We're talking about East Texas hunters who are known to take 75 yard shots with magnum rifles they fire just twice a year. After missing on that first shot they've taken in over nine months, they swear that something must have "bumped" their scope.

My longest WT deer kill was in east Texas. 473 yards, hunting a clear cut. No feeders,

At my lease in East Texas each member gets 2 stand locations. 1 more my stand locations is like this. I have hunter for years without ever missing a deer. My parents as well as other family members are on this same lease. At this one stand location. I have missed 3 deer, my Mom has missed 3 deer, Aunt 2 deer, Cousin 3 deer, and Dad about 3 or 4 one being this past year which he says is the biggest East Texas deer he has ever seen. That is saying alot because my Dad has hunted East Texas since the 60s or 70s and has probably harvested over 100 deer and seen thousands. Not only have we all missed deer at this said location but I have literally shot at a spike 3 times one year at about 90 yards and it just trotted off. I swear I have seen this same spike 3 years in a row as well as have my family members and nobody can kill it. Must be an old burial ground or just a ghost spike because after missing said 3 times I put a 1" group at 150 yards with 3 shots. WTF
