I alway focus on that and wind direction an such. Then I think about my step dad who would sit in the blind drink beer smoke cigarettes and eat stinky Vienna sausages. He alwayse seemed to get the best bucks off his lease evey year. This has always made me wonder if it matters on low pressured deer as much.

I don't put any faith in any of the cover scent products. I put my faith in the wind direction. Some people have the best spots and luck also. A mature deer is still a mature deer for a reason no matter where he lives IMO.

Doesn't matter on low pressure deer as much, but it still matters IMO. Rifle hunting you can get away with more than bow hunting, but still have to hunt the wind. My father used to smoke 2-3 packs a day and didn't slow down at all in the stand. He killed a 189 7/8" with a bow at 20 yards and had to put his cig out before picking up his bow. But he always hunted the wind.
I have zero faith in scent cover up. I have 100% faith in hunting the right wind.

How much faith do I haven't sent cover-up? Short answer...none. Hunt the wind. I quit smoking last year, but before I quit, I used to use my cigarette smoke to check the wind.

It's all about what deer are used to. If you have feeders sit up around campgrounds where fires and noise are going constantly does and yearlings become accustomed to it. Now if you are talking once in a lifetime mature bucks. Probably not.

Kinda what I figured my set this year the only wind that can screw me up is out of the south. This jacked with me last week but the rut goes full swing and we start getting anything out of the north im in business. The only way deer could come in from the south is swimming a conservation lake or out of a 500 acre bare field with no crops. On the other side dense brush, live creek, bedding areas,my feeder and food plot. Really feeling good this year don't use cameras as I like the surprise. I'm sure some were doubles but had at least 35 come thru Wednesday and Thursday morning. I'm hunting the hill country and I know it's rare here but have almost zero pressure on surrounding properties. I was just wondering how y'all felt cause other than sent free deturgent(all free and clear not the hight dollar hunting stuff)never thought cover ups would help I feel adding ceader tree sent is doing just that adding sent. But wind never fails good luck to all.

But wind never fails good luck to all. Sounds like a great set up. Most my stands, I try to have a "barrier" of some sort behind me to block deer from coming in down wind. I have used ponds, open pasture, fences, rifle blinds, etc. Keep out of the area when the wind is wrong, watch how you access the area, and you should have success and should have it for years to come. Good luck

None.
I think a lot of boys don't get winded due to thermals keeping scent above a deer's nose and they credit whatever gimmick they happen to be using at the time.
If your scent hits a deer's nose, he will eventually smell you. That is an indisputable fact.

None. The makers of cover scent products don't fool deer, but they do a masterful job of fooling hunters.

NONE.....Whatsoever! I could go into great detail of the extent to which I "de-scented" myself only to get busted over and over and over...while my buddy shot deer constantly while smoking in his stand....keep your body and clothes clean and hunt the wind because you cannot defeat that nose. I have heard some good things about the Ozonics, but I'm not willing to spend the money to check it out...

I do a good bit... more of the washing detergent than anything. That's not a cover scent. That's staying scent free-er.

The cover ups, soaps, detergents, etc. might work if one didn't breathe.

The cover ups, soaps, detergents, etc. might work if one didn't breathe. This exactly. If you can smell someone's breath when they're talking to you, a deer can smell it 30-40 yards away. It's all about the wind, moisture in the air, etc.

I don't put any faith in any of the cover scent products. I put my faith in the wind direction. ^^^This I agree (again), but also again, THERE ARE things you can do to REDUCE your scent, and you can do it without gimmicks or padding the wallets of the outdoor industry. Because unless you hunt in a different world than I do, deer do actually come in from downwind and not where expected all the time. Good measures can mean the difference between getting a shot or not. I keep my clothes clean with a scent-free detergent (Sport Wash, $5 a year for me); I store my clothes in the large 10 gallon ziploc bags ($6 per box of 4); use scentless Arm&Hammer deoderant ($1.29 per stick which lasts the season); and I usually dress out in the field before heading to the stand. Those few things ($13 per year, wow, how gimmicky!), and especially hunting the wind, can do more for the average hunter than a whole truck load of Ozonics, Nose Jammer, Deer Dander, and Tinks 69. None of this will PREVENT you from getting busted, but it may add some time for a shot. To do anything else, you're just adding scent to your repertoire.

I don't know. Ive had deer come in down wind and never pay it any mind. Ive sat in a stand with 30 deer feeding less than 50 yards dead down wind for hours at a time with no cover scent no scent blocker, window opened wearing the same clothes I hunted in the day before bbq'ed lunch in etc. Sometimes deer spook sometimes they don't.
Bow hunting last year the few times I got to I had 3 deer and a hog come from down wind of me. I was sitting on the ground leaned up next to a tree. The hog stuck around till he got shot. The does all had fawns and fed for about 30 min before they left un spooked.
I try to hunt the wind as best I can and don't worry about the rest.
